There is no mistake in pursuit. From the eighteen hells below, to all the karmic appearances of the peak of existence above, are the results of karma and its fruits. Therefore, regarding such a principle, I, the hermit, am more skilled than you. To proclaim Dharma out of ignorance is the lowest of the wicked. Now, the pitiable object of compassion is this innocent wild animal. Ask me, the hermit, for this life; I will give my life to you, hunter. Thus, with great compassion for the wild animal, the hermit shed tears. In order to save the life of the wild animal, he disregarded his own body and pleaded with the hunter like a collapsing wall, but he was unwilling to change his mind. He shot an extremely vicious poisoned arrow at the dying wild animal, and the animal fell from the cliff with its ears erect into the huge canyon. Immediately, the hunter, along with his dog, ran after it with a "Di Ri" sound, and mercilessly killed the dying, extremely pitiable animal in an instant. The hermit, unable to bear the compassion, fainted and lost consciousness. In the "Tale of the Wild Animal: Messenger of Renunciation," it says: Those who do not remember the Dharma and are attached to worldly pleasures cannot be liberated from suffering. The metaphor of the wild animal being driven to the brink illustrates that in this state, death is compulsory, and no method can deceive it. This is the second chapter. At that time, the great hermit thought to himself: I have already spoken so much about the benefits of virtuous deeds and the faults of sins, and even though a person with great compassion persuades him to exchange his own life, he is unwilling to give up the life of the wild animal and ultimately commits evil deeds, which is truly inappropriate. Just as the guide, with great compassion, killed the black-skinned short-spear man, the saying "sacrificing one for the benefit of a hundred" is indeed the truth. Therefore, he thought, if a sinner lives long, he will cause many sentient beings to suffer. So, from the state of clear light emptiness, he nourished the great anger aroused by compassion and uttered twenty-one irreversible hermit curses. By the power of the truth of the extremely powerful curse and the severe punishment of the gods, the hunter...

They, along with the dog, were crushed to death under the landslide. There, their non-virtuous karma was exhausted, and like snakes stuffed into a bamboo tube, they were on the verge of losing their breath and took rebirth in the great blazing hell (Sanskrit: Avīci). There, the sage observed with clairvoyance that among those in hell, they were in the extremely painful Avīci Hell, where all four directions and eight intermediate directions had become a single mass of fire. In the center of this, they were experiencing unbearable suffering, their four aggregates of existence, along with their habitual tendencies, emitting loud cries. And sometimes, as a result of a cause similar to their own, when the physical matter of their bodies appeared, in the midst of them, the black leaders who had accumulated karma in accordance with their actions, even in the midst of their games, would harm the lives of others. In short, many beings led by the karma of killing were on the ground of burning iron, pierced without any gap by the molten iron of boiling meteoric iron. The messengers of Yama, iron jackals with nine heads and limbs, were extremely terrifying, chasing them without any chance to rest, experiencing intense and prolonged suffering of repeated death and rebirth, without any time for liberation. Seeing this, the sage said: Alas, how pitiful! Compassionate Three Jewels! Although we have obtained the precious body of leisure and endowment, which is difficult to obtain, we turn away from the deeds of the ten virtues and liberation. Alas, how pitiful that such a result ripens for the sinners who cultivate non-virtue! In general, in the city of samsara in the three realms, all actions of experiencing happiness and suffering are karma and its results. In particular, the ripening result of the ten non-virtuous deeds, such as killing, is the body of the three lower realms. If merely seeing it causes one to experience the pain of stopping breath, what need is there to say about experiencing it oneself? Seeing this, who in the world would dare to engage in non-virtuous and sinful deeds? Are they possessed by demons? Or is it the power of karma? Therefore, to all impartial beings, I speak three words of heartfelt concern, unbearable compassion, and sincere advice. Listen well, you fields where the seeds of non-virtue are sown for the sake of the illusory food, clothing, and talk of this life, which is more fleeting than dreams and lightning!
