Now, do not cling. (End) If that is the case, then for a person who has entered the path, the self-grasping of Dharma does not arise. In the Paramita, until the eighth bhumi is attained, and in the Mantra, until the coemergent meaning is attained, one cannot regress, so it is said that it cannot be accomplished. Indeed, from the aspect of not being able to accomplish it, it is not seen as being established as a root downfall. As Shantideva said: Do not measure the Dharma with measurement. Thus, discriminating with the mind that regards the selfless Dharma as self, in the stage of the first practitioner, remembering the clinging to the view that is the object of hearing and thinking, measuring the inconceivable nature of reality with sharp reasoning of investigation, and adding one's own ideas, even at the moment of meditative equipoise, in the manner of focusing on the characteristic of freedom from elaboration, arising again from the nature of reality itself. And, the nature of the view is just like this, thinking thus, with the clinging that has not separated from the eight consciousnesses, discriminating that and that, it is said to be a root downfall. As it is said: Discriminating emptiness as that and that. (End) Twelfth, not teaching the Dharma to those who are suitable vessels for mantra, or to those who possess the three faiths and seek meaning: Causing others to be disgusted with evil intentions, and turning their intentions upside down. That is, for those who are suitable vessels for mantra, that is, those who have the ability to receive the guru's instructions, or if not, but are naturally kind, and for those who have the three faiths of intention and trust, not preventing them from giving the Dharma according to their respective capacities and intentions, and clearly having the ability to accomplish their benefit but not doing so with evil intentions, and with the intention of reversing their intentions from the path they believe in, causing their minds to be disgusted, and with deceit and non-Dharmic mental actions, turning them from the intention of acting according to the Dharma to other things, and combining them with non-Dharma. As Shantideva said: Turning away sentient beings with faith. (End) Thirteenth, regarding the samaya substances to be used, observing one's own continuum, some are abandoned, some are craved. The conduct of mantra is not truly under practice, wandering in the places of the two extremes. There are two: becoming the root downfall of Anuttarayoga, and the way of becoming the root downfall of Yoga and common. The first is, because the conduct is related to time, so for the samaya substances to be used, the five meats and five elixirs

Fifth, regarding gatherings of food and drink such as meat and alcohol, and the nature of desirable qualities such as dances, songs, and courtesans, which are gathering wheels, or occasions such as feasts of heroes and heroines, in situations where there are no specific prohibitions and one has obtained the ability, if one cannot accept these because one views them as inherent, or if one is afflicted by the notion of inherent existence regarding things like the five meats and five amritas and cannot accept them, yet one indulges in meat, alcohol, and other desires with inherent attachment, or if one suppresses the mind with the vows of a Shravaka and is filled with doubt. In short, like nagas and brahmins, being bound by the duality of purity and impurity, or like dogs and pigs, acting in a crazy manner, without falling into either of these extremes, but accepting with the realization of the equality of dharmata, as it says in the 'Source of Amrita': 'Purity and impurity are both conceptualizations. The wise do not dwell in the middle either.' Second is the vajra, bell, and other mudras. Because one does not know their true meaning, one engages in mockery and other actions without any respect or certainty. For example, the bell represents the nature of the five Buddha families and is a support for the samaya of the union of method and wisdom. If one does not treat it with respect and throws it away contemptuously, or if one shakes the bell with a mind that does not obscure reality, then, as the 'Mindless Yogi' says: 'Like an elephant shaking a bell.' This will also become a fault. Similarly, regarding mudras and so on, if one views the hand gestures as laughable and slanders and mocks them in the crowd, as it says in the great commentary on the Shri Chakrasamvara Tantra: 'One mocks because of lack of faith.' This is said to be a state of transgression of the samaya. Fourteenth, yoginis and others who have transcended the world, and protectors, dakinis, and others who hold the boundaries of vows, viewing the elements of the five elements as inherent, and slandering women who are the basis of power. If we interpret this broadly, then slandering women who manifest as wisdom dakinis, such as the urging mother, Ekajati, and Vajravarahi, is a root downfall of both yoga and anuttarayoga. In general, the terms protector and dakini do not refer to those who are situated on the boundary of transcending or not transcending the world, but rather to Vajravarahi.
