Generating Bodhicitta! Thus it is said that abiding in the first ground is to hold onto the lineage obtained through the power of meditating on characteristics. As it says in the Sutra of Completely Pure Conduct: "The essence of all dharmas being selflessness, only those who directly realize this, the ultimate Bodhicitta encompassed by the path of seeing, arises from its own nature. It is born into the lineage of the Tathagatas. It is the one who has attained the first ground of a Bodhisattva." Thus it is. Furthermore, if one rejoices even in being the master of the three realms and in hanging up the banners of ignorance, the attainment of the position of a Bodhisattva is only for this day. May the creeper of joy arise, and even the gods turn towards it. Thus, the three realms, namely, the underground, the surface, and the upper ground, if one becomes the master of all three, thinking that there is no one greater or more powerful than me in this samsara, one becomes extremely arrogant and joyful. However, the nature of samsara has no fixed high or low, so one may have done this hundreds of times before. Similarly, if the ignorant in the world rejoice even in hanging up titles similar to that, such as those appointed by heaven, the name and position of a Bodhisattva are only for today. Because of this, one does not abandon the mind of relieving the suffering of limitless realms of sentient beings, and only with the mind of benefiting them, one invites the enjoyment of happiness as a guest and satisfies them. Therefore, among the gods, even the Asuras and others rejoice, and may the creeper of joy arise, praising the minds of others. Furthermore, the nectar that destroys the Lord of Death, the inexhaustible treasure, the jewel that removes poverty, and the medicine that pacifies illness, for the sake of the resting place for weary travelers on the path of existence, from today onwards, I have become the sustenance for beings. Thus it is said, this shows that it is of great significance, that is, from Bodhicitta, one obtains immeasurable merit. For those with merit, even untimely death cannot overcome them, therefore it is the nectar that destroys the Lord of Death, and this has the meaning of great and inexhaustible enjoyment, therefore it is the inexhaustible treasure, it removes poverty, therefore it is the wish-fulfilling jewel, it pacifies all illnesses of aggregation and affliction, therefore it is the supreme medicine, existence is like a path for beings to travel, and when they are weary from it, it is a resting place by the roadside.

Just as one relies on the earth to breathe, the merits of relying on me to benefit many other beings, becoming a close cause, etc., are inexhaustible. As stated in the Sutra of the Holy and Pure Conduct: At all times, the benefits of Bodhisattvas who act for the benefit of sentient beings, as stated in the sutra, one should cultivate skill in means at all times with mindfulness that is close at hand. Thus, having cultivated compassion, means, and the mind of enlightenment, in this life one will surely become extraordinary. Therefore, in dreams one will always see Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and one will also dream other good dreams. The gods will also rejoice and protect. In every moment one will accumulate vast collections of merit and wisdom, and the obscurations of afflictions and the bad destinies will also be purified. At all times one will increase happiness and mental ease, one will be loved by many people, and the body will not be afflicted by illness, and one will also attain the supreme of the very fitness of mind, therefore one will attain special qualities such as clairvoyance. Then, by the power of miraculous abilities, one will go to limitless realms of the world and make offerings to the Buddhas, the Bhagavat. One will also listen to the Dharma from them. At the time of death, one will surely see the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. In other lifetimes, one will also be born in lands that are inseparable from Buddhas and Bodhisattvas and in particularly excellent families. Therefore, without effort, one will perfect the collections of merit and wisdom, one will have great wealth and many attendants. With sharp wisdom, one will also be able to fully ripen many beings. In all lifetimes one will remember previous lifetimes, therefore, the immeasurable benefits that also appear in other scriptures should be understood. Thus, in the forty-fourth chapter of the Sutra of the Arrayed Tree, when the merchant's son Noble Wealth generated faith in the Holy Manjushri and sought instruction, the Bodhisattva Maitreya on the southern seashore to Vairochana
