Gold of the purest quality, the form of gold is not visible. Through searching and meticulous hammering, it becomes visible only after complete refinement. Similarly, the nature of the Alaya-vijñana, along with the seven consciousnesses, is constantly seen by yogis after being completely refined by samadhi. Thus it is said. Furthermore, although vidya (knowledge) is the basis of avidya (ignorance), it is not pervasive. Therefore, the mere cessation of ignorance does not cause the cessation of knowledge. Just as the cessation of mental events does not cause the cessation of mind. The Dharmakaya of the Buddha is said to be manifested because it is the wisdom of knowledge transformed into the Dharmadhatu. As stated in the Perfection of Wisdom in One Hundred Thousand Lines Sutra: 'Knowing the Dharmadhatu also means knowing the essence and expansion of all dharmas.' Thus it is said. Therefore, although conceptualization ceases when the mind ceases, the Dharmadhatu does not cease. Thus, the activity of compassion follows aspiration like a wish-fulfilling jewel, and appears like the reflection of the moon, adapting to the water vessel. The Avatamsaka Sutra states: 'The king of wish-fulfilling jewels fulfills whatever is desired. Similarly, the Buddhadhatu constantly fulfills aspirations. In this world without beginning or end, he becomes the guide for worldly beings. Through these aspirations, the ten directions are filled with Buddhas. Just as the moon rises, countless reflections appear in vessels of water, yet the moon does not become two. Likewise, those who are without attachment and possess wisdom, attain enlightenment without attachment, appearing clearly in all realms. The Buddha is without duality.' Thus it was taught. Similarly, there are two ways of knowing the knowable: Knowing as it is, which is the Buddha's wisdom, profound, peaceful, and free from elaboration, having completely transcended the imputations and diminutions of clinging to characteristics. Although there is nothing to be known in the all-pervading nature of reality, in the state of ordinary beings, there is impurity not purified by the path of seeing, and in the state of Bodhisattvas, there is impurity not purified by the path of meditation. Having completely liberated from both of these defilements, the nature of self-cognizant wisdom is directly realized, as stated in the Arya Samgatha Sutra: 'When conditioned, unconditioned, white and black dharmas...'

If the earth were completely shattered, leaving not even a speck of dust, then the number of Perfections of Wisdom in the world would be like the sky, with nowhere to rest. As stated in the Sutra: 'To see nothing is to see the Dharma.' Thus it is. The way to know all things is that, while remaining unmoving in meditative equipoise with such wisdom, one directly knows all knowable things as being like false illusions, without mixing them. As stated in the Sutra: 'The object of the All-Knowing One is the absence of things.' Thus it is. This is not knowing through the connection of sense consciousness with objects, because it is impossible for the objects seen to be impure self-characteristics. Even so, although there is no truth, there is falsehood, so it is necessary to know the existence of knowable things. If one does not know, one will fall away from omniscience. Therefore, one knows in a single instant with the wisdom that is of one substance with the supreme wisdom. As stated in the Avatamsaka Sutra: 'The supreme wisdom of the Buddhas knows all meanings in a single instant.' Thus it is. Similarly, the knowable things of the three times are not known in a sequence that follows after conceptual thought, but are known all at once, without before or after. As stated in the Ornament of the Sutras: 'Just as a single ray of sunlight illuminates beings, so the wisdom of the Buddha illuminates all knowable things at once.' Thus it is. The state of Buddhahood is the state of always being in meditative equipoise, never moving from the Dharmakaya, because it has abandoned distraction and latent tendencies. As stated in the Noble Jewel Heap Sutra: 'The great elephant sits, yet remains in equipoise; the great elephant sleeps, yet remains in equipoise; the great elephant slumbers, yet remains in equipoise.' Thus it is. Even so, because the activity of benefiting others never ceases, it can only be designated as subsequent attainment. As stated in the Uttaratantra: 'The cause of being free from the two obscurations is the two wisdoms, namely, non-conceptual and its subsequent attainment, which is known as wisdom.' Thus it is. Third, the activity of benefiting others is that, as long as the realm of those to be tamed exists, the two form bodies continuously emanate from the nature of the Dharmakaya in subtle and coarse forms, arising according to the inclinations of beings.
