From the Jataka tales: Mostly, people dislike what is completely familiar, Always seeking what is new and fresh. All things that remain for a long time, Are pleasing to everyone's mind. It is said that if it is truly necessary or one must stay without choice, Then one should not displease those who live nearby, The people of the place, and the friends who beautify the home, but be humble and tolerant, Maintain a low profile, And protect with the wisdom of the wise, so that the thoughts of both oneself and others will not be broken. Furthermore, Like a sentient parrot that makes a noisy sound, But its mind follows after the good and bad of what is said. Not like an echo in the mountains, Whose actions lack commitment to the place. Like an echo in the mountains, although it repeats what is said like a person with discernment, It has not even a little bit of discriminating consciousness that can follow after with good and bad, attachment and aversion. Similarly, those who have subdued the senses that arise as acceptance and rejection from the objects of the five senses are called those who maintain equanimity towards conditions. Because even in the midst of chaos, discipline, mindfulness, and contemplation do not miss their time, Just as a monk who is relied upon from a lineage of generations, with the light of closeness, even sees the king's house as a solitary place, One should strive for the benefit of sentient beings without fixed place and time. Others besides these, Only rely on place and friends to distinguish between high and low. Persons act equally with pure conduct, Those who meditate focus their minds on meaning. Those whose conduct has not yet become stable and mature, Rely on place and friends to distinguish between high and low. Like this, pure conduct and the arising of the noble path, should be kept away from the bad environment just mentioned, Especially relying on the supportive conditions of a virtuous friend who is in harmony with oneself. The venerable Ananda said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, a virtuous friend and a virtuous companion are half of pure conduct." The Blessed One said to Ananda: "Ananda, do not say that a virtuous friend is half of pure conduct. Ananda, a virtuous friend and a virtuous companion are what make pure conduct completely perfect. Why is that? Ananda,

Those who possess the nature of arising, by relying on virtuous friends, are completely liberated from birth. Thus it was declared. Among these, Brahma is called Nirvana. Because of practicing its meaning, it is called Brahmacharya, which is the path. From that path, in order to attain the state of peaceful fruit. The noble teacher also said: Relying on virtuous friends is Brahmacharya. The perfectly enlightened one spoke thus, therefore, one should rely on the supreme person on the supreme, and after relying on him, many attain peace. Thus it was taught. The Teacher bestows, accumulating merit for others. I also will not diminish in asceticism, beggars are like wish-fulfilling jewels. Only harmonious alms. Therefore, those who wish to accomplish the benefit of themselves and others should abandon attachment to all possessions. One should rely on alms for sustenance, and by relying on it, one can perfect many retinues, have fewer personal affairs, not need to be mindful of others' faces, not be busy with business and farming, have less pride and arrogance, and have many virtues such as pure living. Our Teacher, in order to make those who enter the teachings in the future not be burdened by livelihood and without afflictions, abandoned all lineage, form, power, and enjoyment, and even abandoned the kingdom of a wheel-turning king and renounced, relying solely on alms for sustenance. Those in the snowy mountains whose lineage has declined, who do not like the seven virtues of the heavens, and who change like optical illusions merely because of the difference between rich and poor, should not despise alms. The Sutra says: When the Thus-Gone One sees walking for alms, countless sentient beings are arrogant and intoxicated with wealth and power, and are arrogant and intoxicated with form, lineage, livelihood, and health, and think in their hearts: The wheel-turning king abandoned his kingdom and renounced, and it is said that he walks for alms. Even he can subdue his pride in this way, alas, we must also subdue our pride. It also says: Royal families and others, we are born into great lineages in this way.
