also has no majesty. Even if seen by householders, they will not be respected and will become like butchers. It is widely proclaimed like this. Therefore, do not be born in the eight states of non-leisure, nor become the sixteen that correspond to them. Even if you temporarily become like that, rely on the excellent lama and the profound oral instructions, and at this time when you can transform your mind, diligently spend your days and nights. In short: In places where sins and sufferings are scattered like wind, where there is weariness and fear, and where there is impure merit, the eight states of non-leisure where one is narrow-minded towards the Dharma, think about them and make your leisure meaningful. This is the instruction. Third, identifying the nature of leisure and endowment is divided into two parts: explaining the essence of leisure and explaining the qualities of endowment. The first is: Thus, the twenty-four states of non-leisure disturb the body and mind, and because they are free from busyness, they are leisure. Because the body and mind are endowed with the meaning of correctness, they are endowment. In particular, the leisure and endowment of the supreme Mahayana is: As it says in the Sutra of Akashagarbha: Bhagavan, how should one view leisure and endowment? The Buddha said: The mind is disturbed by conceptual thoughts and is distracted, this is called busyness. The mind is pacified from conceptual thoughts and abides in its own nature, this is called leisure. Endowment is knowing the nature of the mind, and because the mind is endowed with the meaning of correctness, it is called endowment. Here, for the time being, from the Sutra of Ksitigarbha: There are ten kinds of people who are difficult to be born as humans in samsara. What are they? Those who do not generate roots of virtue, do not accumulate accumulations of merit, follow evil friends, connect the continuity of afflictions, are not afraid of the suffering of future lives, whose minds are disturbed by afflictions, who are always lazy and distracted from the Dharma, who do not practice even if they enter the Buddha's teachings, who follow wrong views, and who hold wrong views firmly. As it is said, having been liberated from the karmic consequences of doing evil like this, now practicing virtuous deeds, having obtained an excellent higher realm body, becoming the nature of leisure, this is the treasure of excellent merit, which is the Sutra of the Meeting of Father and Son.

From that, completely abandoning all eight states of unfreedom, and having obtained the difficult-to-find leisure and endowment, the wise who have found faith in the Sugata's teachings should practice the yoga of wisdom. Thus it is said. In the Mindfulness Sutra, it says: Whatever makes you happy, whatever you see and hear well, is just like what comes from contemplating leisure. People should also see that all happiness and good dharma can be accomplished. Thus it is said. Second, how does it possess the ten endowments?: Born in a central, pure land, with faculties, Limbs fully complete, faith in a place of faith. Not destroyed by the flower of karmic extremes, by the stain of sin, Becoming a human, a wish-fulfilling tree, is extremely rare. The Victorious Udumbara flower has come into the world, The flower of Dharma has blossomed in the garden of teachings. Without disappearing, abiding in that place, truly entering, Relying on the cool shade of the holy ones is even rarer. Thus it is said. In the Sutra Explaining the Twelve Leisures and Endowments, it says: Obtaining a human body, being born in a noble land, having complete faculties, not having turned to the extremes of karma, and having faith in the teachings, these five are self-endowments. The Buddhas have appeared, the Dharma has been taught, the holy Dharma abides, others also practice it, and having love for those who practice Dharma, these five are other-endowments. As it is said, the five self-endowments depend on oneself: obtaining a special human body as the basis for the Dharma of gods and humans is an endowment; being born in the central land where the teachings abide is an endowment; having complete faculties as the basis for hearing and thinking is an endowment; not turning to the extremes of karma and always practicing virtue is an endowment; having faith in the place of faith, the teachings of the Victorious Ones, is an endowment. The five other-endowments depend on conditions: that the Buddhas have now appeared in the world is an other-endowment; that the three wheels of Dharma and so on have been turned is an other-endowment; that the teachings still abide without disappearing is an other-endowment; that one has entered the teachings is also an other-endowment; that there is a place to rely on the virtuous friend, the guide on the path to liberation, is also an other-endowment. Thus, if the eighteen qualities of leisure and endowment are not fully complete, it cannot become a special basis for practicing Dharma, therefore, in the Bodhicharyavatara, it says: If one has not obtained this human body, one only commits sins and has no virtue.

Even if I have leisure, if I have not done good deeds, due to ignorance, suffering the pain of the lower realms, what shall I do then? Thus it is said. Fourth, the reason for being difficult to obtain is: Because one's own possessed wish-fulfilling tree, and the udumbara flower obtained under the control of others, both possess ten kinds of merits, possessing eight leisures, this is difficult to obtain again. Why is it said to be like the analogy of a turtle's neck and a yoke? The number is as many as the stars of day and night for humans and animals, those hungry ghosts and hell beings will gradually understand. Thus it is said. One's own possessions are as rare as a wish-fulfilling tree, while those possessed by others are even rarer, like the udumbara flower. The Sutra of Parables says: Beyond the north of the unheated great lake, there is a mountain called Five Peaks Mountain, and across from that mountain, there is a grove of udumbara trees. When the Buddha Bhagavan descends from the heaven of Tushita and enters the mother's womb, that grove will bloom. When born from the mother's womb, that grove will blossom. When attaining the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, the flowers of that grove will also flourish. When abandoning life, that grove will wither. When completely entering nirvana, the leaves, flowers, petals, and fruits of that grove will also fall. Also, the Essence Chapter says: The appearance of Buddhas in the world is difficult to obtain, like the analogy of the udumbara flower. Both of these, for a complete person with a leisure body, are called a precious human body. The analogy of being difficult to obtain is: The Letter to a Friend says: Living in the same ocean, etc., the meaning of which is extensively explained in the Sutra Pitaka itself. Monks, in a world that has become a great ocean, there lives a blind sea turtle with a long life, living for a long time, and it emerges once every hundred years. In that great ocean, there is a yoke with a hole, blown by the east wind to the west, and blown by the west wind to the east. Similarly, all directions.
