The burden of the earth's existence, seeing death become meaningless. Even Brahma, Ishvara, Sugata, and the Wheel-Turning Kings, do not devise means to escape the clutches of the Lord of Death. The heavenly realm is lush with delightful medicinal herbs, but for the lives of beings, The hunter with a club in hand thinks only of this one thing. Beings tormented by the summer heat rejoice in the clear light of the autumn moon, But they do not fear the passing of a hundred days of their lives. The efforts of beings are as swift as a flickering flame in the wind; therefore, Faster than the hungry ghosts crawling on the ground, faster than those flying in the sky, faster than the sun, moon, and stars, the passing of human life is the swiftest of all. At the height of youth, one is afflicted by the punishment of old age; gathered in peace, one is disturbed by illness; Perfect interdependence is destroyed by decay; death attacks life and comes swiftly. When defeated on the battlefield of Yama, one runs to a desolate cliff without refuge or support. One abandons the vitality of life and the senses; medicine and doctors also flee from him. The limbs are weary, and the breath sways and groans uncontrollably. Even surrounded by grieving relatives, one is powerless to turn back, like a hook detached from its hold. His breath wavers like a horse's tail, severed by the sharp axe of the Lord of Death. Displaying unsightly teeth, he enters the thick darkness of karmic destiny. From "The Treasury of Qualities, Joyful Rain," the chapter on Impermanence, the Second Chapter. Third Chapter Thus, those beings who have gone to the next world, by what rope is their status bound? Only virtuous deeds and sinful habits draw near; conventional truth is not deceptive. Just as farmers clearly know the various kinds of seeds, The many actions familiar and habitual in other lives make beings diverse. The shadow of a Garuda soaring high into the sky is temporarily invisible, But like form and separation, when gathered and the time is ripe, it becomes even more apparent. Non-virtuous deeds are like the fire of a horse's head, capable of drying up even the waves of the heavenly ocean, the ship of omniscience.

The metaphors and meanings of destruction are explained in the Karma Shataka and the Extensive Play Sutra. For the extremely patient beings of the lower realms who endure torment, The realm of heroes with the strong army of the ten virtues, Is not established by the weapons of war, But all those who break their vows are under your control. Some people's discipline, some people's lifespan and life, Some people's asceticism, some people's Dharma and wealth, Some people's shame, some people's sense of honor, etc., Are given up for the sake of sin very often. Because for the sake of the object of offering, relatives, retinue, and subjects, For the sake of protecting the country, even if the powerful Sinful double drinkers (referring to drinking and doing evil) are given up, There is no mature result to share. Greedy for gain and only loving pleasure, Only listening to good words, becoming arrogant when praised, Because of one of these things, the other four also follow, These children are deceived by the eight worldly dharmas. Boasting of lineage, appearance, power, etc., Hiding in the shadow of laziness and idleness, And arousing arrogance and other bad mental states, Will become rakshasas who hate the merit of asceticism. With the strong power of the greedy and attached mind, With the all-conquering vine of deceit and cunning, Even if deceiving others and protecting oneself, The great harm will enter one's own interior. In samsara, the actions of good and evil and their results, Even from a tiny seed, can produce a huge fruit, And are more powerful than the human king and me. Just as seven beans can become a Chakravartin. Some trees have seeds as small as mustard seeds, The fruits of the Ashoka tree in the season of maturity, Each branch can grow to a yojana in length, The image of good and evil cannot be compared to this. Anything is not without cause, nor is it naturally produced, But is driven by the intention dyed with the colors of good and evil, Making karma and its results powerful. Actions without preparation and follow-up are weak. If the root is medicine, then the sprout is also medicine, If the root is poison, what need to say about the sprout? From the motivation of good and non-virtuous thoughts, The size of the image of good and evil does not change accordingly. Like this, there is no antidote for permanence and manifestation. The actions arising from the main basis of possessing qualities, The five forms of good and evil, light and heavy, Are said to be the consciousness that can receive them. As the basis of everything, the Alaya consciousness is unspecified, From it arise the mind and the consciousness of the five objects, The great demon of ignorance that pervades everything, Disturb
