This is the root of virtue of the three doors arising from the earth. As the Ratnamala says, "Without attachment, hatred, and ignorance, the actions produced by them are pure." That is the meaning. This itself is also distinguished from the aspect of objects of merit, divided into three: the object of merit arising from generosity, the object of merit arising from ethics, and the object of merit arising from meditation. Here, what is relevant at this time is the object of merit arising from generosity. This is distinguished as: "Material things, fearlessness, Dharma, and love, always give the four kinds of generosity." Among these, the first is the main one. How should one give? It is said thus: "Give at the right time and without regret, give with joy and without expecting fruition." Because it possesses the four characteristics mentioned, there is nothing that cannot be dedicated to the cause of enlightenment. In general, it can also be said that the classification of the four kinds of generosity is complete within this collection of good deeds. Furthermore, according to the intention of the extremely vast scriptures, the Condensed Verses, the Three Skandha Sutra, and so on, there are countless three-thousand great-thousand world systems in the ten directions of the universe. In those worlds, the Buddhas, Bhagavat, who have gone and come in the three times, from the first arising of the supreme mind of enlightenment, to the final manifestation of complete enlightenment, and the roots of virtue beginning with the six perfections, as well as Bodhisattvas, Pratyekabuddhas, Shravaka learners, non-learners, and gods and humans who have obtained the teachings of the Buddhas, etc., who have truly created contaminated and uncontaminated roots of virtue, should all be dedicated with great wisdom. As it is also stated in the Avatamsaka Sutra: "Whatever good deeds there are in the pure lands of the ten directions, by repeatedly practicing those, with the mind of benefiting and bringing happiness to all beings, dedicate all those wise and learned ones." This is what is being taught. Secondly, these roots of virtue are also directed only to the Buddhas as the object of dedication, and not to others. Not to the creator Brahma, Indra, the thousand-turning wheel-ruling king, the local king of the realm, and for the sake of the happiness and fruits of perfect retinue and enjoyment.

Dedication is not good, because they rely on the temporary happiness of samsara as a cause, and cannot transcend the result of suffering. Virtue is accumulated solely for the sake of permanent aspirations. Thus, that permanent aspiration, merely thinking of oneself alone as being free from suffering, is also not the state of a Hearer or Solitary Realizer, because they only focus on their own peace, which is an obstacle to attaining perfect enlightenment for the benefit of others. Therefore, a qualified dedication is: In the realm of the Victorious Ones, all roots of virtue, except for omniscience itself, are not allowed to be dedicated to the state of Hearers or Solitary Realizers. Thus it is said. The third part has two points: how to avoid aspects that are inconsistent with dedication, and how to accomplish consistent aspects. The first point is: Wherever merit is made, even if the vow to dedicate becomes firm, a poisonous dedication that is not grasped by wisdom without object, for those who have the conception of grasping at the reality of the three spheres, is unavoidable. In the Eight Thousand Verses it says: For those with conceptions of objects, there is no dedication. Why is that? Because grasping is poisonous. Therefore, clinging and attachment to things, thoughts, and objects as truly real is the obscuration of knowledge, having the conceptualization of the three spheres. Lord Maitreya said: Whatever is the conceptualization of the three spheres, that is considered the obscuration of knowledge. The second point is: Dedication that is grasped by the means of the mind of enlightenment and the wisdom of the view of selflessness is a dedication that possesses four goodnesses. Thus it is said: Object good and teacher, means good and renunciation, conduct good possessing self-nature, is explained as the true aspiration. Among these, the means is being grasped by the sacred mind of enlightenment, however all the virtues that are practiced are shared in common with all sentient beings equal to the extent of space, without being separated from the aspiration to seek the state of perfect omniscience. Shantideva said: Whether it is an object or a continuum, do not engage in anything other than the benefit of sentient beings. Merely sentient beings
