At the crown of my head, seated in the vajra posture, visualize the lineage lamas of the Dzogchen tradition seated in tiers. Furthermore, the root and lineage lamas, the mothers and dakinis, the assembly of deities of the mandala of the six great tantras, and the countless heroes and heroines of the three places surround me. On the branch in front are the buddhas of the three times, such as Buddha Shakyamuni, in the form of emanations. On the branch to the right are the eight close bodhisattvas and the sangha of the Great Vehicle. On the branch to the left are Shariputra and Maudgalyayana, and the assembly of noble shravakas. On the branch behind is the Dharma Jewel, visualized as stacked scriptures, red in color, emitting the natural sound of the vowels A (Tibetan, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal Chinese meaning: A) and KA (Tibetan, Devanagari: क, Romanized Sanskrit: ka, Literal Chinese meaning: Ka). All the spaces in between are filled without interruption by the ocean of oath-bound Dharma protectors, accomplished through wisdom and action. All of them, with immeasurable qualities of wisdom, love, and power, lovingly care for me and are present as great guides who lead me. Having contemplated this, in front of them is myself, to my right is my father, to my left is my mother, in front is the harm-doer, and all around are the beings of the six realms, all reverently joining their palms. From their mouths, the sound of refuge resounds. In their minds, from this moment until reaching the heart of enlightenment, they rely on the lama for guidance, on the yidam and buddha for direction, on the Dharma as the path, and on the dakinis, Dharma protectors, and sangha as companions for accomplishing the path. We rely on you, we offer to you, and since there is no other refuge or hope other than you, we entrust everything to your wisdom. With intense longing, take refuge, and recite the refuge prayer as much as possible. Finally, rays of light emanate from the hearts of the refuge objects, entering the bodies and minds of myself and all sentient beings, purifying all obscurations and their habitual tendencies. Contemplate that life, merit, qualities of learning and realization, and so on, increase and expand more and more, and then rest briefly in a state of non-attachment. Second, the generation of bodhicitta: In this way, all sentient beings pervading space, from beginningless lifetimes, have sometimes made enemies into friends, and sometimes friends into enemies, and so on, enemies

Since there is no definite danger, and considering that enemies and friends are uncertain in this life and the next, first generate a mind of equanimity, free from attachment and aversion to near and far. Then, because all of these are your own kind mothers, for the sake of repaying their kindness, generate loving-kindness, wishing them to meet with happiness; compassion, wishing them to be free from suffering; and joy, wishing that they may never be separated from such happiness and freedom from suffering. Finally, fill your mind with the four immeasurables. With the circumstances and places as witnesses, for the sake of all sentient beings attaining liberation and lasting happiness, I will definitely attain the precious state of complete and perfect Buddhahood—make this aspiration. And for this purpose, taking this profound path as an example, train in the vast conduct of a Bodhisattva, and vow to exert effort until not even one sentient being remains in samsara—enter into this practice. Without separating from such objects and aspects, recite the three verses of generating the mind of enlightenment, etc., as appropriate. If you cannot manage that much regularly, merely the aspiration and application aspects of generating the mind of enlightenment will accomplish the purpose. If you wish, in between, practice mind training of exchanging self and others, and especially, in accordance with the breath, practice the visualization of giving happiness and taking suffering, and cultivate the ultimate Bodhicitta, the union of calm abiding and insight, guided by the realization of the two kinds of selflessness, as much as possible. Finally, dissolve yourself and all sentient beings into the refuge objects. These also dissolve into the central guru. That also dissolves into the primordially pure dharmakaya, free from elaborations, and rest in equanimity. Third, the meditation and recitation of Vajrasattva: While reciting "ཨ༔ བདག་ཉིད་མལ་སྤྱི་བོ་རུ༔ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning)" etc., on the crown of your head, where you are abiding as ordinary, visualize an eight-petaled white lotus, with a stem about four fingers high, inserted into the center of the fontanelle. In the center of the lotus, there is a white, cool, full moon disc, the size of a reddish-yellow stamen, and on top of the moon, there is a white Hūṃ (ཧཱུྃ,Hūṃ,seed syllable) that has completely transformed. In an instant, from the Hūṃ, Guru Vajrasattva appears, his body color is clear white, radiating light, with a peaceful smile, serene and majestic, complete with all the marks and signs. He wears a white silk upper garment, a lower garment of various colors, a crown, and earrings. A dark blue silk crown hangs down from the back of his neck.
