Combining the fundamental wisdom with the mind and practicing it means: Whatever happiness appears, its essence is not established outside of one's own mind in the slightest. And the mind itself, initially, at what time, in what place, in what way does it arise? If you search for it, you will not find it, so the cause of its initial arising is emptiness. In the middle, starting from the inside and outside of one's own body, from the internal organs, to the external container world and the sentient beings within, between coarse and fine, where does it exist? What is its shape, color, and characteristics? If you search and examine well, you cannot say, "This is it," so the essence of its existence in the middle is emptiness. Thus, if arising and abiding cannot be established, then cessation, which depends on them, cannot be established either. Therefore, in the end, it is said to dissolve into something, or disappear, but no matter who searches, they cannot find it, so the result of the final cessation is also emptiness. In short, rest completely on the inexpressible reality that is free from the three—arising, abiding, and ceasing. Similarly, whatever suffering appears, observe the essence of that suffering and practice as above. In short, whatever phenomena are encompassed by duality, such as pleasure and pain, happiness and unhappiness, do not be arrogant or attached, and do not be angry. By guiding them with such key points, "whatever happens is happiness," and whatever happens is transformed into Dharma, so that both temporary and ultimate happiness can be attained. This is what was said. The second Vajra word, "If the mind stays still, it is okay to go," has two ways of practicing its meaning: the common yoga and the uncommon yoga. First, practicing with the common yoga means that whatever virtuous deeds you do, you should have a strong desire that you can never take your mind off, like a mother who has lost her only child. Whatever distractions arise, do not let them control you. If you practice in this way, you can use your mind no matter what you do—walking, standing, sitting, or lying down—so that virtue will not diminish but will increase. Therefore, it is said, "It is okay to stay, and it is okay to go." Second, practicing with the uncommon yoga means that Acharya Shantideva said: "With the wisdom that possesses both calm abiding and insight, one knows how to completely destroy afflictions. Therefore, one should first seek calm abiding, which is perfectly accomplished when one is free from attachment to the eight worldly concerns."

As I see it, calm abiding makes the mind workable, thereby suppressing afflictions. Insight recognizes the nature of the mind, thereby uprooting afflictions. Therefore, one must first seek calm abiding as the basis for insight. And calm abiding arises from the complete stillness of body and mind. So, cast aside all the seemingly important but meaningless things in this life. For beginners, in a quiet place, on a comfortable cushion, sit upright in the lotus position. Let the breath remain natural. Pray to the Lama and the Yidam. Cut off all the elaborations of the three times—past, present, and future. Without entering into the state of inexpressible reality, rest blankly, cut off, and evenly. In this way, meditative experiences will gradually arise. After becoming slightly accustomed, rest evenly at all times and in all circumstances. By striving in this way, the mind will not be stolen away by external circumstances, thereby recognizing one's own mind, grasping one's own ground, and gaining freedom. No matter where the target is directed, the mind will remain still. Even if the body dwells in a village or walks on a long road, the mind will not be separated from the meditative experience, and one can do whatever one wants. The third of the three vajra statements: "If the mind goes to Dharma, even death is easy." Practicing the meaning of this statement is divided into two
