The power of relatives, the power of awakened lineage, the power of increasing the fruit of virtue, the power of hearing the great vehicle's teachings, and the power generated by repeatedly familiarizing oneself with what has been heard. Among these five, the first, relying on friends, is an unstable bodhicitta; the latter four are difficult to be harmed by adverse factors, thus being a stable bodhicitta. As stated in the Ornament of the Sutras: 'The power of friends, the power of lineage, the power of the root, the power of hearing, the power of familiarizing with virtue, unstable and stable arise, bodhicitta taught by others is explained.' As it is said, the conventional bodhicitta, which mainly arises from the power of others, also includes the ritual for gaining what has not been gained, the method for protecting what has been gained from degenerating, and the restoration when degenerated. Here, it is the occasion for the first, gaining what has not been gained, performing the ritual of generating bodhicitta and vows. Regarding this, in the sayings of the previous scholars, there are two systems of bodhicitta: the Madhyamaka system and the Chittamatra system. The Madhyamaka system follows the sutras such as the Gandavyuha Sutra and the Akashagarbha Sutra, spoken by the noble Manjushri, transmitted by the great scholar Nagarjuna, the system of the great scholar Shantideva, the practice of the scholar Shatravijaya, and created by the great lords of the teachings, the Sakya school. The Chittamatra system follows the sutras such as the Bodhisattvabhumi Sutra, spoken by the noble Maitreya, transmitted by the noble Asanga, the system of the great scholar Chandragomin, the practice of the great Lord Atisha, and created by the virtuous friends, the Kadampa school. These two have many differences in terms of the object to be taken, the person who takes it, the ritual of taking it, the way of protecting it after taking it, and the restoration when degenerated. Also, some scholars say that the differences and characteristics of these two are not reasonable. Here, setting aside such a sequence of refutation and affirmation, as it appears in the writings of the great scholar, the noble Asanga, and Lord Atisha Dipamkarashrijnana, from the perfectly enlightened Buddha, to our great kind protector,

According to the practice that comes from the unbroken lineage of masters, there are three aspects to offering: it is necessary to ascertain the basis of bodhicitta and vows, then to practice accordingly, and finally to determine the nature of reality. First, there are three points to ascertaining the basis: generating aversion to the end of suffering samsara, rejecting attachment to the end of peaceful nirvana, and generating joy in the mind of enlightenment that is free from both extremes. First, generating aversion to the end of suffering samsara must be determined as follows: At this time when we have obtained the leisure and fortune of a human body, we must strive to cross the ocean of suffering samsara and attain unsurpassed enlightenment. The reason for this is that these two goals can only be accomplished by relying on this basis, and others cannot. As it says in the 'Encouragement to Increase Intentions': "Whoever obtains it can exhaust the ocean of birth, and can also plant the seeds of excellent enlightenment, surpassing the merits of even a wish-fulfilling jewel. Having obtained this human form, who would make it fruitless? Following the path of the Sugatas, preparing to guide beings, the attainment of a human being with great mental strength, this path cannot be obtained by gods and nagas, not by asuras, garudas, vidyadharas, kimnaras, or those who crawl on their bellies." Therefore, leisure and fortune are also difficult to obtain. As it says in the 'Heap of Jewels, Tree Chapter': "It is difficult to become a human being, and it is also difficult to have leisure, fortune, completeness, and purity." Master Shantideva also said: "Relying on the boat of a human body, one can cross the great river of suffering. This boat is extremely difficult to find in the future, so fools, do not sleep at this time." Even if it is obtained, it does not last long. The noble Nagarjuna said: "This life is full of harm, shaken by the wind, even more impermanent than a bubble on water. What leisure is there to wake up from sleeping between exhaling and inhaling? That is very rare." Therefore, one must quickly strive for virtue. If one does not strive for virtue but instead commits evil, one will fall into the lower realms. Shantideva said: "If one does not do good deeds, but instead accumulates evil deeds, even for hundreds of millions of kalpas, the sound of a happy realm will not be heard." If one is born in the lower realms, there is the suffering of heat and cold in hell.
