For example, a clean and spotless cloth can be dyed into various colors with dyes, but a dirty cloth stained with oil cannot be like that. That is the meaning. The method of abandoning the cause of decline is: Since the ultimate essence of the Great Vehicle's Dharma, the definitive meaning, is supremely profound and endowed with great benefits, why do some people disbelieve and abandon it? This is because the fault lies not in the Dharma, but in the person. This is what the Buddha taught. That is, some people abandon the noble Dharma because they lack the wisdom to discern the profound meaning and their intelligence is extremely low. This should be understood in this way. Some people lack faith in and are separated from white virtue because they have not awakened the potential for growth; some people rely on false pride because they possess non-qualities but think they possess qualities; some people have accumulated heavy karmic obscurations in previous lives that cause them to lack the noble Dharma, so they are of the nature of obscuring the true meaning; some people cling to the definitive meaning of all dharmas in the scriptures of provisional meaning, understanding it in a reversed way; some people are overly attached to and crave the enjoyment of desirable qualities such as food, clothing, and wealth; some people are extremely attached to bad views such as the view of the aggregates as a self; some people revile and abandon the profound and vast noble Dharma, and long associate with and are influenced by sinful friends; some people have long distanced themselves from virtuous friends, holy beings who uphold the Great Vehicle's noble Dharma and possess qualities; some people lack trust in the correct Dharma and individuals, and delight in reversal, believing in inferiority, therefore they abandon the noble Dharma of the Tathagatas, Arhats, Perfectly Enlightened Ones, especially abandoning those who teach the profound suchness. Even so, in reality, they themselves are falling.

Therefore, wise individuals should not act in that manner. That is the meaning (of what was said above). There are two ways to abandon the consequences of falling away from the Dharma. The way to abandon bad rebirths is: How to fall away from the supremely profound and sacred Dharma, just like that, the noble individuals who are skilled in what to take and what to abandon, even if burned by fire, which is known as terrifying in the world, and devoured by endless venomous snakes, killed by executioners, and pierced by hailstones, one should not be extremely afraid. Compared to that, falling away from the Dharma itself should be feared and abandoned, because being burned by fire, being devoured by snakes, being killed by enemies, and being pierced by vajra fire hailstones can only sever the life of this lifetime. From those (actions), one will not fall into the hells of the bad rebirths without interruption. But abandoning the sacred Dharma will cause one to experience uninterrupted suffering. That is the meaning (of what was said above). The way to abandon samsara is: If any evil person repeatedly associates with sinful friends and is dominated by them, even towards the Buddha, who is the ultimate refuge, the perfectly complete and enlightened one, they harbor the desire to harm him, thereby causing the Buddha to bleed; they also kill parents, who are recognized as having great kindness in the world; they also commit the act of killing an Arhat, who is worthy of being respected by all people, which is not appropriate; they create divisions within the supreme Sangha, causing discord. Such a person, if they truly contemplate and meditate single-mindedly on the profound emptiness that is the reality of all dharmas, possessing all supreme qualities, and on the great compassion without object, they can quickly be liberated from the great obscurations of karma such as the five heinous crimes, and attain great Bodhi. But if someone hates and abandons the definitive meaning Dharma, which is the ultimate essence of the Great Vehicle, then there is no need to even mention attaining liberation and unsurpassed Bodhi. Because they do not possess the fortune to practice this path. That is the meaning (of what was said above).

End. The way of dedicating merit: The Buddhas, Dharma, and Sangha, are the fruits to be obtained, the meaning of the Three Jewels; and the cause of accomplishing them, the naturally pure realm, the meaning of the Tathagatagarbha; and that which is free from adventitious stains, the state of being extremely pure, the meaning of the Great Bodhi; and the meaning of the qualities contained in that, by detachment and the ripened fruit; and the meaning of the activity of well accomplishing the benefit of others by that power, the meaning to be expressed, the seven vajra natures, having explained in a non-inverted manner as it is, May all these beings who abide in samsara, by the pure root of virtue that I, the expounder, have obtained, be born in the mandala of the Buddha's retinue as a temporary result, possess the collection of infinite rays, see the face of the Immortal, the Perfect Buddha, of immeasurable life and wisdom, and after seeing the Buddha, hear and practice the supreme Dharma from that, and from that obtain the Dharma eye, free from dust and stains, and so on, and generate pure patience that is not afraid of the profound Dharma, and ultimately obtain the supreme, perfect, complete, and supreme Great Bodhi quickly. Thus it is said. The way of explaining is summarized and shown: What is relied upon to explain: Thus, it is shown by relying on credible scriptures and reasoning. What is the reason or necessity for explaining: For the sake of oneself alone, and for those who have faith, virtue, and perfect wisdom, this is explained for the sake of benefiting them. Thus it is shown. How to explain: Like lamps, electricity, jewels, sun and moon, etc. Thus it is shown. What is the nature of the meaning to be explained: Whatever is meaningful. Thus, it is shown that in order to make the meaning to be explained a conducive condition for understanding, what is the explainer: Whatever is solely for the Victorious One's teachings. Thus, it is shown that the way in which the treatise is composed is thus, and so on.
