This alone is the way to non-inverted emptiness of complete liberation. That's what it says. To show the necessity of what they said, there are two aspects: briefly stating the necessity of the question and answer, and explaining its meaning in detail. Briefly stating the question: For example, just as the form of unstable and selfless clouds, just as the appearance of dreams that are enjoyed and experienced but are selfless, just as the image of illusions that appear in various ways but are selfless. The intermediate teachings, the sutras that teach non-characteristic, such as the extensive and intermediate Mother Sutras, there it should be known that from form to omniscient wisdom, all phenomena, although appearing, are completely empty and selfless in all aspects. Having spoken extensively in this way, again, the final teachings, the scriptures that definitively determine the ultimate meaning, such as the Tathagatagarbha Sutra and so on, are very numerous here. The truth spoken by the victorious complete Buddha, to all sentient beings, the essence of the Buddha, the realm of reality, is naturally pure and luminous, and has been spontaneously established from the beginning. That's what it says. Isn't it contradictory that it was said before that it doesn't exist, and here it is said that it does exist? The answer is: There is no fault of contradiction. What was said before that it does not exist is to prevent clinging to it as truly real, to show that there is no temporary defilement; and what is said here that it does exist is for the sake of five special necessities, to show that the realm of reality exists. That's how it is explained. That is, if the Tathagatagarbha is not shown to exist, then sentient beings, because they do not know that the ultimate Buddha is in themselves, will think, "Someone like me cannot achieve enlightenment," and become discouraged, and there is the fault of not being happy to enter the path; because they do not know that it exists in others, they will think, "These sentient beings are inferior," and despise them, and there is the fault of disrespect; because they do not know that it exists in themselves and all others, they will think, "Do false, temporary defilements that are not true exist in the realm of reality that is not true in nature?" and there is the fault of clinging and adding on; and the realm of reality, which is inseparable from the true qualities, has always been

To assume that what is pervasive everywhere is non-existent is the fault of slander; and the fault of attachment to oneself increasing excessively due to not understanding the equality of self and others in the nature of the Dharmadhatu—these five faults or transgressions, whoever has them predominantly, should abandon them and generate the joy of wanting to attain enlightenment, as well as respect for all sentient beings, wisdom that realizes without suddenness, and primordial wisdom that realizes inherent existence, and great love that knows self and others as equal. For the sake of these purposes, the Tathagatagarbha, the Dharmata, the Suchness, is said to be pervasive in all things. This is the general statement. The detailed explanation has two parts: explaining the intention of emptiness being taught elsewhere, and showing the benefits of the Dharmadhatu being taught in this tantra. The explanation of the intention is: If the existence of the Tathagatagarbha is the definitive meaning, then in the *Queen Maya Sutra* and others, it is said that all phenomena are emptiness, appearing like clouds, dreams, and illusions, yet without inherent existence. What is the intention of this? It refers to the non-inverted object, the ultimate Dharmadhatu, the unconditioned, which is devoid of all appearances of arising, ceasing, and abiding that are produced by the false, conditioned, and adventitious defilements, and is emptiness. So, empty of what? It is said to be empty of the adventitious defilements and conditioned phenomena. So, what are the adventitious defilements? They are the afflictions of attachment and so on, the pervasiveness of afflictions, and the pervasiveness of actions such as non-virtue, and the maturation of these, the pervasiveness of arising from things such as the aggregates. These are also expressed in the same way as the three examples of clouds and so on, in order. Afflictions are adventitious obscurations that obscure the nature of beings, which is pervasive like space, therefore they are like clouds; contaminated actions caused by afflictions are produced by inverted and confused thoughts, and are objects of delusion, therefore they are like the enjoyment in a dream; afflictions and actions and
