Furthermore, to compile a series stating that the rituals mentioned in the scriptures and the means of exhausting karma are unreliable, indicates that they have not distinguished between the two instances of reliability, nor have they distinguished the other views refuted by each of these two instances, but merely apply the scriptures in practice and insist that this treatise is a book of debate. I, through the blessings and good teachings of Sakya Pandita, am free from the burden of ignorance regarding the key points of logic. Therefore, the body of karma is not unreliable. Third, apart from these, the body of karma is not unreliable, which has four aspects: Abandoning the body of karma has no necessary ability; Refuting the existence of means to exhaust karma; Eliminating the contradiction of wanting to exhaust karma; Eliminating the causal similarity of karma and afflictions. Abandoning the body of karma has no necessary ability. First, just as the path is the antidote to eliminating afflictions, the path should also become the antidote to eliminating the body of karma, because the body of karma and afflictions are all causes of arising. If someone thinks like this, then the seeker of liberation should not only abandon karma and body, because there is no antidote to abandoning only these two, and without abandoning craving, there is no ability to abandon these two. The reason is established, because if craving exists, the body of karma will arise again. If someone says that one should strive to exhaust both craving and karma, then the seeker of liberation, even if one strives to exhaust both craving and karma, the effort made to exhaust karma is meaningless, because abandoning craving will not produce karma. Refuting the existence of means to exhaust karma. Second, the reason 'because there is no antidote' is not established, because asceticism can exhaust the power of previous karma. If someone thinks like this, then the contaminated karmas can be inferred to be different by the ability to produce different results, because they are seen to produce various different results. Therefore, the affliction of asceticism, that is, the object of suffering, you cannot exhaust all karmas, because some of your forms will produce similar results such as hunger, but the suffering that produces different results will not even reduce the result of karma. What if the power of asceticism mixes all the powers of karma together, thereby experiencing one suffering or exhausting it through one asceticism? Asceticism, you cannot exhaust afflictions, that is, suffering. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Or, like plucking out hairs, abandoning all actions, or abandoning everything without regard to suffering because of afflictions. Why is it that you mix all the power of actions together and then exhaust them with one suffering or one asceticism? Because you consider afflictions to be different from suffering. If that is not established, if afflictions are suffering itself, then that asceticism, as a dharma, will not be able to mix and exhaust all the power of actions, because it is the result of negative actions. Third, refuting the contradiction with the desire to exhaust actions: If you also think that by realizing selflessness, its result can also exhaust actions, then how can there be no antidote to exhausting actions? The path of realizing selflessness, as a dharma, is a means of preventing craving, because it destroys the seed of future craving, thereby avoiding the fault of future craving arising from previous craving. Therefore, the path of realizing selflessness, as a dharma, has the power to destroy the actions produced by future craving, but how can it cause the results of previously done actions to diminish? That is impossible, because the actions done by craving are certain to produce results. Fourth, refuting the similarity of cause and effect between actions and afflictions: If it is said that just as actions arise from afflictions, and one cannot be liberated if there are afflictions, similarly, afflictions also arise from actions, so one cannot be liberated if there are actions, then the action of abandoning afflictions, as a dharma, will not produce the fault of afflictions from you, because you have no afflictions. This is universal, if one has afflictions, one will create actions, conversely, without afflictions, actions and afflictions will not arise. If that is not established, if happiness and suffering arise from good and bad actions, and then desire and hatred arise from happiness and suffering, then the Pudgala (Tibetan: གང་ཟག་, Sanskrit: पुद्गल, Romanization: Pudgala, Literal meaning: person) who has abandoned the view of self, as a dharma, will not generate desire and hatred even from happiness and suffering, because there is no wrong thought, no clinging to 'I' and 'mine'. Second, the way in which the Sugata is established from that: The protector who teaches the four noble truths without error, as a dharma, you are established as the Paksha (Tibetan: ཕྱོགས་, Sanskrit: पक्ष, Romanization: Paksha, Literal meaning: side), the teacher corresponding to you has the wisdom to know the nature of reality as it is, and the wisdom is firm and irreversible, and knows the distinctions of all knowable things, that is, has wisdom with three qualities. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
