For the benefit and happiness of all sentient beings, I will teach you. Listen well and keep it in mind. Thus spoke the Blessed One. Then Manjushri said to him, "Excellent, excellent!" and listened. The Blessed One spoke, "Manjushri, those who wish to possess such limitless and immeasurable qualities should first recite this auspicious mantra: Homage to the five victorious Buddhas, the gods of auspicious meaning! Homage to the supreme gods of auspiciousness, the noble Three Jewels! Homage to the glorious gods of auspiciousness, the protectors of the directions! Homage to the splendor and light from which all auspiciousness arises! Homage to the king who accomplishes all purposes, the source of supreme auspiciousness! Whatever auspiciousness exists in space, expanse, and sphere, may that auspiciousness bring happiness and goodness here and now! In the sky, auspiciousness is the two luminaries, the sun and moon, surrounded by a multitude of planets and stars. On the earth, auspiciousness is the five elements, with plants, fruits, flowers, and blossoms spread in abundance. In between, auspiciousness is the Three Jewels, their light of perfect glory pervading all directions.
