It abides in the essence of non-dual, self-cognizant awareness. Therefore, appearance itself and emptiness itself are non-dual and inseparable, neither separate nor different. By introducing it in this way, one realizes that appearance and emptiness are non-dual because appearance lacks inherent existence. As it is said in the Union of Sun and Moon: "Whoever realizes that the objects of appearance arising from focus lack inherent existence, for them, appearance and emptiness are non-dual." Introducing as Non-Dual Self-Liberation Fifth, introducing as non-dual self-liberation: Likewise, realizing the non-duality of appearance and emptiness is also the essence of self-cognizant awareness, unmade and primordial, naturally abiding without cultivation, free from all elaborations, clear yet without clinging, the arising of various appearances unceasing, clarity and emptiness uncompounded and spontaneously accomplished, the wisdom of the three kayas born together, in the realm of primordial purity, all conceptual thoughts transform like a snake's knot into non-dual self-liberation. By introducing it in this way, even the clinging and conceptual thoughts that grasp at appearance and emptiness transform into self-liberation within the state of great primordial liberation of awareness. As it is said in the Transcending Mind: "The awareness that arises, like a snake's knot, is self-liberated. Since there is no essence, cease striving. Its essence is primordially liberated." And as it is said in the Subtle Arrangement: "Unceasing potential manifests in any way. From the very moment of arising, it is liberated in its own place. Liberation cannot be expressed merely as 'liberation.' Likewise, what is not liberated?" And: "Perfect Buddha is self-cognizant awareness itself. Its essence does not change in the three times. Its nature is eternally unceasing. Compassion is the self-appearance to all." In short, although mind is deluded thought, if one knows the nature of delusion, it is awareness. Since the nature of deluded thought is not established as delusion, it is empty, and since the essence of awareness is not annihilation, it is luminous. From the radiance of self-cognizant awareness, whatever arises unceasingly, and after realizing that the play of self-appearance is inseparable from appearance and emptiness, whatever awareness arises is the nature beyond bondage and liberation, self-liberated in the realm of primordial purity, free from elaboration, which is the ultimate state beyond the object of meditation and the meditator. This is the recognition gained from the perspective of view.
