Whatever arises, focus your awareness single-pointedly on that which appears clearly. By restraining the sensory consciousness from wandering elsewhere, the six consciousnesses gather into one. The mind that wanders to other objects is pacified. Although thoughts may change, transforming from conceptual thought to non-conceptual thought, if, due to special preliminary practices, you forcefully suppress thoughts from the beginning, the elements and constituents will become disturbed. Not only will the mind not abide, but it will also become an obstacle, making it difficult to generate samadhi. Considering this, do not focus on the supports of the six objects, nor conceptualize any aspects of what should be abandoned or adopted. Instead, abide in your own nature, naturally, settling into the uncorrected essence. This is what is meant by abiding in your own state. How to settle the three doors naturally: The *Thal Gyur* says: "At this time, the key points of body, speech, and mind, the yogi should settle naturally." The *Das Je* says: "Then, the three, body, speech, and mind, skillfully settle them naturally." Therefore, the key point of the body is to not accept or reject good or bad, but to sit cross-legged, squat, lie down, or whatever feels comfortable in your natural state, without moving like a corpse in a charnel ground. The key point of speech is to be in a state free from speaking, without manipulating even the movement of the life-sustaining wind, remaining like a mute in your natural state. The key point of mind is to abandon the elaborations of virtue, non-virtue, and neutrality, and to be free from thoughts and distractions, abiding in your natural state like a cloudless sky. As the extensive and intermediate versions of the *Perfection of Wisdom Sutra* say: "To practice yoga on the Perfection of Wisdom is to practice yoga on space." The meaning is the same. Thus, by possessing the yoga of non-action, the three doors are left uncorrected, abiding in their natural state. For example, just as muddy water becomes clear when left undisturbed, so it is said that if water is not muddied, it will be clear, and if the mind is not manipulated, it will be clear. The teaching on the benefits is: The *Klong Sal* says: "Whoever settles in this way, disturbances of the elements, sickness, and adverse conditions are pacified, and clinging is self-liberated." Like this, by settling naturally for twenty-one days, seven days, or three days, the signs of temporarily settling naturally are that the body remains still, the speech does not desire to speak, and the mind is worldly.

There will be no attachment to actions. The elements and sources will not be disturbed, and diseases and misfortunes will not occur. One will abide in naturally clear and non-conceptual meditation. Ultimately, the clinging to the three doors will be liberated into self-purification. Returning to the Original State. Secondly, regarding returning to the original state, there are three aspects: the necessity of returning, the manner of returning, and the benefits. First, concerning the teaching that the three doors must return to their original state, it is said in "Vast Expanse of Clarity": "In order to realize the meaning of primordial purity, settle naturally and return to the original state." As before, settle naturally and gradually bring the three doors back to the correct path, so that one can realize the meaning of primordial purity, free from elaboration, without any distortion. Therefore, it is necessary to return to the original state. The manner of returning is also divided into general and specific. Generally, it is said in "After Death": "The Hearer, Bodhisattva, and Wrathful One, through their respective views, return to the original state. Thus, the three are restored, and diligence in practice will be achieved." The mind itself, settled in clarity and non-conceptuality, is gradually guided and habituated through peaceful, intermediate, and harsh conduct. Specifically, it is said in "Vast Expanse of Clarity": "Through the Hearer's peaceful view, body, speech, and mind settle naturally. Through the Bodhisattva's view, natural settling brings happiness. Through the Wrathful One's view, natural settling accomplishes the three qualities." Therefore, the Hearer's peaceful view is: by possessing the seven-point posture, whatever thoughts of feeling arise, one does not expand or contract, does not fabricate or modify, but leaves them in their own place, so that the appearance of conditions is clear in its own nature, yet the state of non-conceptuality is not lost. Thus, the three doors naturally settle, causing the non-abiding to abide and pacifying subtle thoughts. The Bodhisattva's view is: the body posture is as before, the eyes look straight ahead at the space about a yoke's distance away, not in a state of too much opening or closing, but gazing loosely, and because of that condition, the moment awareness arises clearly and without interruption, one should know that at the moment of arising, its nature is not established. Thus, coarse thoughts mostly cease, and the three doors abide in a natural state without contrivance, thereby gaining happiness and stabilizing it. The Wrathful One's view is: without losing the state of meditation, one stands up, takes irregular steps, and makes a rough posture.
