Now, we must recognize the root of afflictions. To counteract them, we must understand the instructions of the Guru. We must cut off samsara. Meditation should not remain superficial. Those who consider themselves good and wise, they have not truly understood the Dharma. Those who pretend to be monks, they practice without fearing the consequences of karma. Those who are diligent, they only focus on the affairs of this life. Now, we must distinguish the boundaries between good and non-good from these good promises, and fear the consequences of karma. Caution is very important, because a slight carelessness can lead to mistakes, as taught by the Guru and the Buddha. It must be kept in mind. Generally, if there is some understanding of the Dharma within, then the poison of inner afflictions will subside, and outer attachment, hatred, and ignorance will decrease, and the mindstream will become gentle and pliable. There should also be some signs of realization. When difficulties arise, one's own mindstream also needs some relaxation. If no obstacles have yet arisen, and everything seems good, then is the Dharma really helping you? You must look back at yourself. You must examine yourself from the depths of your heart. You must make decisions for yourself. Seeking advice from others is useless. The words spoken by the Guru are true and unfailing, these are oral instructions. Mahamudra Instructions: Buddhahood in This Very Life Homage to the Guru! The Mahamudra instructions for attaining Buddhahood in this very life have only two points: the co-emergent nature of mind is the Dharmakāya (法身), and the co-emergent appearance is the light of the Dharmakāya. Appearance is the light of mind itself, like the sun and sunlight. The point is in mind itself. To realize mind, one must realize appearance. One must recognize that appearance is empty, and recognize the wonder of appearance appearing even though it is empty. The initial experience is inexpressible. First, if asked, 'Is appearance existent or non-existent?' The answer is, 'Non-existent.' If it is said, 'It is contradictory that it is non-existent yet still appears,' then that is an illusion. How wonderful! Then, where does this come from?' The answer is, 'It is the magical display of mind.' Therefore, the nature of appearance is empty, without artificial fabrication. Meditate on mind! As soon as some experience arises from within, outer attachments will naturally be cut off, like the disappearance of cataracts or eye floaters. The inexpressible experience is like a mute person tasting sugar. After realizing mind in this way, there are three ways to experience it: the co-emergent nature of mind --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The method of remaining in a natural state: Relax the body and mind, and let go without consciousness or purpose. Furthermore, have faith in the words of the holy Lama, do not scatter the mind, and let the six consciousnesses operate freely. Know that all appearances are conceptual thoughts, and that conceptual thoughts are Dharmakaya. By practicing in this way, realizations of practice will arise, giving rise to one-pointed yoga, non-elaboration yoga, one-taste yoga of many, and yoga without meditation. The manner of arising depends on the degree of the individual's training, and may arise gradually, suddenly, or all at once, which is uncertain. At that time, the Dharmakaya is manifested, and through the power of aspiration, the two Rupakayas arise, which is Buddhahood. This is a recording of teachings by Nyi Gom Dakpo Rinpoche, instructions from Dakpo Gomchung to Dakpo Rinpoche, which he passed on to Tsultrim Yeshe. Namo Guru! The Great Seal (Mahamudra) Obstacle Clearing of the Precious Lama: The term 'Great Seal' refers to emptiness. There are two types of emptiness: artificial emptiness and natural emptiness. One becomes enlightened through natural emptiness, but not through artificial emptiness. Speaking of it in words and making it an object of the intellect, desiring to arrive at the ultimate meaning, is artificial emptiness. It is impossible to become enlightened through artificial Dharma, because it is Dharma with characteristics. Therefore, if one misinterprets emptiness, those with little wisdom will be destroyed. As it is said, 'If one misinterprets emptiness, those with little wisdom will be destroyed.' The four pitfalls of emptiness are: taking emptiness as an object of knowledge, taking emptiness as an ornament, taking emptiness as an antidote to afflictions, and taking emptiness as a path. The four places of error are: falling into the realm of nothingness, falling into the realm of neither existence nor non-existence, falling into the realm of infinite consciousness, and falling into the realm of infinite space. The fault of falling into these is great. As it is said in the 'Heap of Jewels Sutra': 'Holding onto the self of a person, even as large as Mount Meru, is better than misinterpreting emptiness, because misinterpreting emptiness destroys the teachings of the Buddha and is the basis of the sixty-two wrong views.' Therefore, one should meditate on natural emptiness. Natural emptiness is without beginning or end, -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ག ། 1-20-5a
