It is the cause of growth and development. I asked if it is necessary to have connections after becoming a Buddha. The answer: The fruit is wisdom, which is the essence. There is no permanence or impermanence, no increase or decrease. The essence is the cause of making those who do not understand the essence understand it. After understanding the essence, accumulate merit, If you meditate, it will become clear. I said, 'I have accumulated merit, but I don't seem to feel clarity.' The master said, 'Meditate on the essence, and the eighty-four thousand afflictions, as well as the sinful cycle of samsara, will all subside on their own. All that should be abandoned has been exhausted.' If it has been exhausted and arrived, there is no end in sight even if you repent upwards. I asked, 'Is that so?' The master said, 'That's right, meditating on the essence alone is enough.' If you abandon the world and go to a solitary place, do you need food? Do you need to prepare some kaja (food), or take essence, or accumulate wealth?' The master said, 'Don't do that, meditate in a state of neither dead nor alive.' Master Milarepa said, 'It is not possible to abandon without kaja, you must prepare enough food for yourself.' Putting everything down, meditation is the most important. Food is provided by the Dakinis. Without taking essence, there is no accomplishment. If it is beneficial for the disease, you can eat a little cough medicine. I have not done asceticism either. Accumulating wealth is easy, and there is no obstacle.' Meditate in the place of accomplished ones, or meditate in an empty valley, or meditate in a monastery? Please instruct. The master said, 'Meditate in any comfortable place. If you like it, meditate for a long time; if you don't like it, meditate for a short time.' If you don't want to do the virtuous deeds of body and speech, put them down and just meditate on the essence?' Master Milarepa said, 'If you think it is not necessary, then it is a stone. If it is neither necessary nor unnecessary, then it is not necessary.' Is it okay to interrupt meditation to benefit others?' The master said, 'If you have not abandoned sentient beings in your heart, you can manifest the form body to benefit others. If you have abandoned it through action, then it is okay.' If you take refuge in the essence, it is the vehicle of Dharmata. Keeping vows is without outflows. Compassion is without object. Generating Bodhicitta is ultimate meaning. Keeping Samaya is primordial protection. Because it is fully complete, is it okay not to need others?' The master said, 'All others are false, only meditate on the truth.' I asked, 'What is the difference between Alaya consciousness and essence?' The master said, 'The nature of Alaya consciousness is the essence. The wisdom that arises together with ignorance is like a hand turned upside down. Until enlightenment, it is the root of samsara.' I asked, 'Which is better, the essence focused on one point, or the awareness that is scattered and unstable?' The master said, 'Both are possible. The mind is...'
