The cause of taking refuge based on what, the object of taking refuge based on that. The extent to which one has taken refuge. How to take refuge. The order of what to learn after taking refuge. First: The great Je Tsongkhapa said: There is no certainty that one will not be reborn in the lower realms after death. It is certain that the Three Jewels protect from that fear. Therefore, taking refuge is extremely important, and its precepts should be practiced without fail. That is, one is not certain that one will not go to the lower realms in the future, and there is no other protector from that fear than the Three Jewels, so one should take refuge in them from the bottom of one's heart and learn their precepts. To do this, one must first accomplish the cause of taking refuge. It is necessary to fear and dread any fear, and to believe that only the Three Jewels have the power to protect from it. Furthermore, from Resting the Mind in its Natural State: Small people fear bad migrations. The middle two fear existence, and the great ones. Seeing the suffering of samsara with its parts. Others. As such, small people fear the suffering of the three lower realms, and the two middle Hearers and Solitary Realizers fear seeing the suffering of the six realms of existence and peace. Great beings cannot bear to be tormented by the suffering of their own cycle of existence, and they see that others are also tormented by suffering in the same way, and they cannot bear the suffering of others. And fearing that one alone will be liberated from the cycle of existence and attain peace, abandoning others.

The object of refuge is: As it is said in the "Seventy Verses on Refuge", "The Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha are the refuge for those who desire liberation." As such, the infallible refuge for those who desire liberation is only the Three Jewels. The reason for this is stated in the Treasury of Precious Qualities: "The nature of the path and protection is the sacred Dharma. The Dharma arises from the teacher, and the friend or support for practice is the Sangha. Therefore, the Three Jewels are established as the object of refuge." This is the path to liberation and the state of omniscience. Therefore, its nature is to protect oneself from the fears of samsara and nirvana, that is, the actual protector is the sacred Dharma. The Dharma arises from being closely shown by the teacher, the Bhagavan, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, so he is the teacher of refuge. In accordance with that, the friend who practices that Dharma, or the nature of Dharma, the qualities to be practiced or accomplished, the person who is the basis of reliance on whose continuum is the Sangha. Therefore, these Three Jewels are established as the supreme object of refuge. For example, if one needs to go from a place of fear to a place of happiness, then there must be an unerring path to go there, a teacher who shows that path, and a good friend who enters that path and goes along with it. If these are present, then the need is accomplished, and if they are not, it is not accomplished. Therefore, our teacher said, "I have shown you the path that cuts the thorns of existence. The Tathagata is the teacher, you must do it yourselves." Therefore, the sacred Dharma is the actual path, so it must be practiced. The reason why these are worthy of refuge is that the Buddha himself is liberated from all fears and is skilled in the means of liberating others from fear. He enters with great compassion without near or far, so he has love for all. He benefits those who have been helped and those who have not, without looking at benefit or harm, so he is worthy of refuge. If one is not liberated from fear oneself, one cannot save others from it, just as one carried away by water cannot save one carried away by water. Even if one is liberated from fear, if one is not skilled in the means, it will not benefit us, but it is not like that, but in every way.

Although skilled in methods of taming those to be tamed, without love, there is no certainty of protection. However, possessing great compassion like a mother's love for her only child towards all sentient beings, protection is assured. Even if relying on bestowing benefits on others, one has no ability to benefit the Buddha, and there is a possibility of not protecting a few sentient beings who have not previously bestowed benefits, but it is not so. Possessing such four distinctions of qualities, whoever possesses them is worthy of being a common protector of sentient beings, but only the Buddha possesses them. Furthermore, external deities like Brahma, Vishnu, and Ishvara do not possess them. That Buddha is worthy of ultimate protection. Therefore, the Dharma taught by him and the Sangha who practice it are also worthy of protection. Thus, in the praise worthy of praise, it is said: 'External limbs, all powers, you have truly accomplished. Internal powers are incomplete, children suffer.' As it is said, the protector must have both external and internal powers or limbs of the cause complete in order to protect and guide those to be tamed. However, the external limbs of the cause, all powers for guiding those to be tamed, are complete because the Bhagavan has truly accomplished them in three countless eons. However, the internal powers, the limbs of the cause, such as faith and trust, and prayers, are incomplete. Therefore, we children, each individual, must rely on the suffering of samsara from beginningless time until now. This arises from this. Therefore, the previous suffering is one's own fault, not the protector's fault, because one has not generated single-minded trust and faith, and has not taken on the burden of acting according to the teachings, and has not even done that much. Therefore, if one can generate certainty in these qualities just mentioned and can place hope with a single mind, there is no possibility of not being protected. Therefore, one should generate certainty from the depths of one's heart. Third, how to take refuge, Asanga said in the Compendium of Determinations that there are four ways to take refuge: knowing the qualities, knowing the distinctions, making a commitment, and not speaking differently. The first is
