Thus he spoke. Moreover, in the first stage of the practice of meditation, it is said: "The Sutra of the Great Vehicle says: 'From the practice of discipline is the first, from that beginning, the order of meditation, briefly stated.'" And it is said that when practicing higher vision, "All dharmas are without self-nature, without object." Therefore, all dharmas being without self-nature must be realized even more than the initial action. That which realizes it from that is none other than higher vision, its essence is wisdom. Thus it is said, in the Explication of the Thought Sutra, "Bhagavan, since dharmas have no self-nature, with what perfection does a Bodhisattva grasp them? Avalokiteshvara, with the Perfection of Wisdom." Thus it is said. Its characteristic is differentiation, from that itself, that which distinguishes the meaning to be known and thoroughly distinguishes it, that is higher vision. From others also, what is wisdom? It is that which thoroughly distinguishes those very things. Thus it is said. The definitive word is that here, realizing what others have not realized and seeing what has not been seen is higher vision. Thus it is said, in the Great Sutra Requested by the Holy Naga King of the Sea, "Bhagavan, if some dharmas are seen, then that is not higher vision." That which is unseen is the most excellent of those who see, thus it is said, in the Holy Dharma Going Sutra, "Bhagavan, not seeing all dharmas is truly seeing," thus said the venerable Subhuti. Its divisions are three: the wisdom of hearing, the wisdom of thinking, and the wisdom of meditation. The object of these is that the object of the wisdom of hearing is the nature of sound itself, and the letters that make up the sound, because the direct perception and the object are the same. It also focuses on the general sound and the general meaning, because the definite knowledge in direct perception helps. Some say that the wisdom of hearing only focuses on the nature of the sound itself, but that is not the case. Because when hearing the sound of saying 'vase,' if one does not understand the meaning of the slender neck, it is like not hearing it. Therefore, thinking

From what does wisdom arise? If there is no wisdom of thought, the wisdom of meditation will not arise. Therefore, that is a wrong understanding. The object of the wisdom of thought is the generality of sound and the generality of meaning. Furthermore, if divided by the main aspect, correct wisdom is of two kinds. As it is said, the object that is similar to the ultimate inferential wisdom is solely the generality of meaning. The object of the wisdom of meditation is of two kinds: the own-characteristic of things and the generality of meaning. Among these, the own-characteristic of things is the object of the wisdom that is similar to the direct perception of a yogi who has transcended the world. The generality of meaning is the meditation of inference by individual ordinary people, and the object of similar wisdom. Among these, the means of generating them are three: the wisdom of listening, the wisdom of thinking, and the wisdom of meditation. Now, first, one should generate the wisdom of listening. Among these, some say that listening is not necessary, because they want to disparage others. Those who are fond of speaking are like this: in the Sutra Encouraging Higher Intention, it says: "I have declined in practice, what should I do now? At the time of death, great sorrow will arise. If the depths are not found, there will be great suffering. These are the faults of being fond of speaking." And so on. Therefore, some say that it is enough for those who meditate to look at the sutras. But that is not so, for it is said for the sake of gain and respect, etc. Speaking the Dharma for the benefit of others is not unnecessary because the benefit is great. As it is said, in the same Sutra Encouraging Higher Intention: "Giving Dharma with loving-kindness, without respect, has twenty benefits without material gain. What are the twenty? They are as follows: one is endowed with mindfulness, one is endowed with intelligence, one is endowed with wisdom, one is endowed with faith, one is endowed with knowledge, one realizes transcendental knowledge, one has little attachment, one has little hatred, one has little ignorance, the demons cannot find an opportunity in him, the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, think of him, non-humans protect him, the gods infuse his body with radiance, unfriendly people
