I prostrate to all beings residing in all realms of the world. It is not to prostrate to those residing in some times of the past, present, and future, but rather to those who have passed through the three times. Those who have passed away having become Buddhas in the past, those who have become Buddhas and passed away in the present, and all those Buddha lion-men who will become Buddhas and pass away in the future, I bow down with my body, praise with my speech, visualize with my mind, and respectfully prostrate to them all. The term "lion-man" refers to the Tathagata manifesting in a human body for the benefit of sentient beings, descending from the Joyful Realm (Tushita). Just as a lion overpowers all wild animals and deer without fear, so too does the Tathagata overpower all demons and heretics, as well as all opposing gods and humans, without any fear or timidity towards anyone. This is a designation for those who excel in all qualities of the power of knowledge. "Body, speech, and mind combined" does not refer to the illnesses of others, but rather to one's own body, speech, and mind combined, contemplating the Buddha's body with the mind, praising with speech, bowing down with the body, and respectfully prostrating. If asked, why prostrate to so many lion-men? Because they possess perfect qualities and are worthy of prostration, even prostrating to one can obtain great merit, but if prostrating to many, one can obtain even more merit, therefore, one should prostrate to them all. Secondly, prostrating with the body begins with "By the power of the aspiration of the Excellent Conduct." What is the object of prostration with the body? The aspiration of Excellent Conduct is the aspiration spoken by the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra. Power is the key instruction, the key instruction that arises from this aspiration. Or it is explained as prostrating with the power of aspiring to Excellent Conduct. Excellent Conduct has already been explained above. Aspiring there is to direct the mind there. By the power of aspiration, it means abandoning distracting unfavorable factors and engaging in focusing the mind one-pointedly. "All the Victorious Ones, manifestly with the mind," refers to the Buddhas who have conquered the enemy of afflictions. With the mind or thought, in the ten directions and

Visualize all Buddhas who have passed away in the three times—past, present, and future—as if seeing them directly. The phrase "Bodies as numerous as the atoms of all lands, I prostrate to all the Victorious Ones" means to contemplate that one's body transforms into as many bodies as there are Buddha-fields of those Victorious Ones. The phrase "To all the Victorious Ones, I pay homage" means to contemplate that one's body transforms into as many bodies as there are, and prostrates to all those who are visualized as if directly seen. "Victorious One" (Gyälwa) means victorious over the enemy of afflictions, victorious over demons, and victorious over all sins and non-virtues. When the Brahmin Nyer-dro asked, "Who are you?" the Blessed One replied, "I am victorious over sinful and non-virtuous dharmas; therefore, Nyer-dro, I am called the Victorious One." So, what is the benefit of prostrating with many bodies? If one contemplates and believes in prostrating with many bodies, then even prostrating with one body brings great merit. Moreover, if one believes in prostrating with many bodies, the merit is even greater, so one should believe in this way. Third, prostrating with the mind: "Within a single atom are Buddhas as numerous as atoms, dwelling amidst the hosts of Bodhisattvas." This means to contemplate that on the surface of a single subtle atom, Buddhas as numerous as the atoms of all Buddha-fields are dwelling, all of ordinary measure. However, one should not contemplate that only one Buddha is dwelling, but that each Buddha is surrounded by many Bodhisattva retinues, teaching the Dharma and dwelling, and one should believe in this way. "Buddha" means awakened from the sleep of ignorance, like one who has not slept, because everything is clear and understood. Or, like the lotus of wisdom opening and blooming, just as there is no further blooming beyond the blooming of a lotus, because one knows everything, so one is a Buddha, without even a speck of unknowing. Therefore, "awakened" and "bloomed" are combined at the same time, and it is called "Buddha." "Son" (Sras) refers to those who have entered the stage of faith and practice, up to the point where they do not cut off the lineage of the Tathagatas. Or, it refers to those who have attained the first ground. The Holy Ten Bhumi Sutra says, "Bodhisattvas who have attained the first ground..."
