A Summary of the Meaning of the Four Commentaries on the Samantabhadra's Caryāpraṇidhāna, Made into a Memorandum. Yeshe De. A Summary of the Meaning of the Four Commentaries on the Samantabhadra's Caryāpraṇidhāna, Made into a Memorandum. Yeshe De. A Summary of the Meaning of the Four Commentaries on the Samantabhadra's Caryāpraṇidhāna is present. Homage to the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra and the Noble Mañjuśrī! The meaning of the four types of the Noble Samantabhadra's Caryāpraṇidhāna composed by Ācārya Dīkanaga, as well as Śākya Mitra, Buddha Kīrti, and Bhadra Bahiti, and the explanations combined with what was immediately heard from the Khenpos and what comes from the Sutras, made into a memorandum with easy-to-understand terms. The Samantabhadra's Praṇidhāna, or the Caryāpraṇidhāna of Goodness, is consistent with its name and meaning. Samantabhadra refers to the Tathāgata, because it is beautiful in every way due to the perfection of the benefit of oneself and others. It is the praṇidhāna of his conduct. Moreover, conduct itself is Samantabhadra, because it is without fault and free from all defects, it is the praṇidhāna of all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. It is good at the time of first hearing, good at the time of thinking and meditating in between, and good at the time of the fruit of Buddhahood in the end, therefore it is called the Caryāpraṇidhāna of Goodness because of its goodness. Alternatively, the Bodhisattva named Samantabhadra practices as the most excellent lord. By this kind of praṇidhāna of his conduct, the bhūmis and pāramitās are practiced perfectly for the benefit of oneself and others, therefore it is called the Caryāpraṇidhāna of Goodness. Alternatively, do not connect it as "Samantabhadra's Caryāpraṇidhāna," but connect it as "Caryāpraṇidhāna of Goodness," that is, to obtain or aspire to that most excellent good conduct, therefore it is called the Caryāpraṇidhāna of Goodness. Among them, some such as prostration are not praṇidhāna, but mostly they are praṇidhāna, therefore it is called praṇidhāna. Furthermore, the Bodhi conduct of prostrating, making offerings, confessing sins, rejoicing in merit, urging the turning of the wheel of Dharma, requesting to remain to benefit sentient beings, and dedicating the roots of virtue to the unsurpassed great Bodhi.

Just like being very good, it is something to be prayed for, and ultimately benefits will arise, because one desires and prays for such good fruits, therefore it is a prayer. Thus, this prayer is true to its name. The Prayer of Noble Excellent Conduct is taught through ten aspects: prostrating to the Tathagata, making offerings to him, confessing misdeeds, rejoicing in merit, turning the wheel of Dharma, requesting them not to pass into Nirvana but to remain, dedicating the roots of virtue, the excellent distinctions of prayer, the conclusion of prayer, and the benefits of prayer. In general, from achieving Buddhahood down to being born in the three lower realms, the power to be born in any high or low place is in one's own hands. This depends on whether one has adjusted one's mind well or not. If one adjusts one's mind well and engages in virtue, one can even achieve Buddhahood. If one's mind is not adjusted well and one engages in non-virtue, one will fall into the three lower realms. Therefore, if one wants oneself to be happy and well, and also wants to benefit and bring happiness to others, one must adjust and train one's mind well. Therefore, in order not to fall into the three lower realms, to always be happy and achieve Buddhahood, and also to benefit others, what should one do first? First, for all places worthy of prostration and offering, one should train one's mind with the thought of prostration and offering, confess sins, and make oneself a vessel suitable for receiving the virtues of others. In order to train one's mind in this way, for the place of prostration, where the Buddha actually resides, one should especially visualize with one's mind, therefore prostration is mentioned first. Among these, prostrating to the Tathagata is of four types: prostrating with body, speech, and mind all together; prostrating with the body; prostrating with speech; and prostrating with the mind. Among these, the first is: "To all those who have gone to the ten directions of the world, The lions among humans who have passed through the three times, I prostrate to all of them with body, speech, and mind." This means that one should prostrate to whatever number, whoever, whatever direction, whatever realm of the Tathagatas there are. It is not just prostrating to a certain direction.
