Likewise, the great complete nirvana shown by the Tathagatas is from the Sutra on the Manifestation of the Birth of the Noble Tathagata. Having spoken thus, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, glorious one born into the lineage of the Tathagatas, said this to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Samantabhadra: 'O son of the Victorious One, how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva comprehend the great complete nirvana of the Tathagatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Ones?' Having spoken thus, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Samantabhadra said this to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, the glorious one born into the lineage of the Tathagatas: 'O son of the Victorious One, here, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, wishing to comprehend the great complete nirvana of the Tathagatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Ones, should be wise to comprehend the very nature of intrinsic nature. Just as one comprehends the complete nirvana of Suchness, so too should one comprehend the complete nirvana of the Tathagata. Just as one comprehends the complete nirvana of the ultimate limit of reality, so too should one comprehend the complete nirvana of the Tathagata. Just as one comprehends the complete nirvana of the sphere of Dharma, so too should one comprehend the complete nirvana of the Tathagata. Just as one comprehends the complete nirvana of the realm of space, so too should one comprehend the complete nirvana of the Tathagata. Just as one comprehends the complete nirvana of intrinsic nature, so too should one comprehend the complete nirvana of the Tathagata. Just as one comprehends the complete nirvana of the limit of freedom from desire, so too should one comprehend the complete nirvana of the Tathagata. Just as one comprehends the complete nirvana of the limit of signlessness, so too should one comprehend the complete nirvana of the Tathagata. Just as one comprehends the complete nirvana of the limit of the very nature of self, so too should one comprehend the complete nirvana of the Tathagata.

Should be done. Just as all dharmas are perfectly extinguished by their very nature, so should the Tathagata's perfect extinction be understood. Just as the perfect extinction at the edge of reality is, so should the Tathagata's perfect extinction be understood. Why is that? Because all dharmas are unborn and unproduced from the very beginning. Since any dharma that is unborn and unproduced from the very beginning has no separation, it should be observed as stated, etc. The meaning of the words of the three displays by the Tathagatas—manifesting perfect enlightenment, turning the wheel of Dharma, and displaying the great Nirvana—has been explained. After that, the meaning of the words that show the roots of virtue from seeing, hearing, and attending to the Tathagata will be explained. Seeing, hearing, and attending to the manifested body of the Tathagata will cause the accumulation of merit to arise. Therefore, in order to show that, it was asked: "Venerable One, why should it be known that the merit that sentient beings generate by seeing, hearing, and attending to the manifested body arises from the Tathagata?" Therefore, in order to counteract extreme ignorance, it unerringly shows that the Tathagata is the unsurpassed field of merit. Because it is the very act of focusing particularly on the Tathagata. That is to say, when sentient beings see, hear, and attend to the manifested body, because they are doing so with the thought and action of focusing particularly on the Tathagata himself, it also shows that the merit that arises from it arises from the Tathagata himself. The manifested body is also the blessing of the Tathagata, because it arises from the blessing of the Tathagata, so it should be said that it is the Tathagata himself, which is the concluding word. It is shown that seeing, hearing, and attending to the Tathagata will generate roots of virtue.

Moreover, as stated in the Sutra on the Manifestation of the Birth of the Blessed One, "Having spoken thus, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, the glorious one born into the lineage of the Tathagata, said to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Samantabhadra: 'Hey, son of the Victorious One! How does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva comprehend the roots of virtue from beholding, hearing, and attending to the Tathagatas, the Arhats, the perfectly complete Buddhas?' Having spoken thus, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Samantabhadra said to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, the glorious one born into the lineage of the Tathagata: 'Hey, son of the Victorious One! Here, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, endowed with the wisdom of manifestly accomplishing leisure, should truly comprehend the generation of roots of virtue from beholding, hearing, and attending to the Tathagatas, the Arhats, the perfectly complete Buddhas. Generating roots of virtue from beholding, hearing, and attending to the Tathagatas, the Arhats, the perfectly complete Buddhas, is a place without interruption, a place of singularly going to the ultimate end, a place without deception, a place that completely fulfills all intentions, a place where all conditioned actions are inexhaustible, a place of subsequently realizing the unconditioned, the non-discriminating wisdom of the Tathagata, a place of abiding without reaching the limit of the later end, and a place of comprehending from obtaining the self-arisen ground endowed with all aspects of excellence.' As such, one should contemplate what has been said. Blessed One, it seems there is no manifest accumulation, so why is it that only from the Dharmakaya of the Tathagata do great lights of wisdom arise for sentient beings, and countless images of emanations also appear, while they do not appear from the bodies of liberation of the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas?' This is because, previously, when explaining the generation of roots of virtue from beholding, hearing, and attending to the Tathagata, also through the blessing of the Tathagata,
