Whether one wishes to become a scholar, or to combine the characteristics of all dharmas with valid cognition and realize them, etc., whatever one wishes to do is fine. However, for the teachings of the Tathagata, there is no other way than to listen, contemplate, and practice. Just as the scriptures of the Buddha Bhagavan are profound and vast, for the inexhaustible scriptures, a person like me with limited wisdom and ignorance, explaining their meaning in a vague way, is like trying to cross the great ocean with the wings of a small bird, which is obviously impossible. Since this is the case, why do I explain without measuring my own abilities? Because I see the valid cognitions relied upon in the world, and the four reasons mentioned in the holy *Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra*, one would not even think of questioning these explanations. People in the world do not use such precious and true words of the Buddha as valid cognition, but instead see how non-Buddhists and others deceive the world with their own fabrications and proclaim them as valid cognition. If I were to conceal the valid cognition of the scriptures, I would lose respect for the Three Jewels and compassion for sentient beings. Therefore, it is unbearable, like having a piece of gravel in the eye, so I am constantly worried and write these words merely to encourage the wise. Just as kings in the world can exercise their power in their own way as they please, so too, for all dharmas, one can understand them in a rational way as one wishes. The so-called "reason" is like the king of all dharmas, and below I will explain the four reasons that accord with the Buddhadharma. So, what are these four reasons? As the holy *Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra* says: "There are four kinds of reasons, namely, the reason of dependence, the reason of function, the reason of proof, and the reason of suchness." Briefly explaining these four reasons: The so-called reason of dependence refers to the reason for explaining dharma and result, that is, how actions should be established in name, and what results from what causes and conditions, all need to be shown in dependence. The so-called reason of function refers to explaining from the perspective of karma and cause, that is, what function is in what

And, what and what is determined as the cause and condition, that is to show that that and that produce the effect. The so-called reason for establishing the proposition is pervasive, that is, it shows the characteristics of the measure to be established by what and what. The so-called reason for the nature of phenomena is to explain from the perspective of the nature of phenomena, that is, to show what kind of nature phenomena have in the conventional truth and the ultimate truth. It should be known that for the characteristics of these four reasons, it is necessary to determine the difference between error and correctness, that is, the reason for establishing the proposition. Regarding the characteristics of the relative reason, among them, the so-called relative reason is that in order to generate the aggregates, in order to subsequently establish the name, all those that become the cause and condition are the relative reason, so it is said. There is no autonomy in generating the aggregates and establishing the name, but it abides in the aggregation determined as the cause and condition, which is called the relative reason. The so-called aggregates are of two kinds, namely the outer and inner aggregates. Among them, the six realms from the earth realm to the dharma realm are the outer dharmas. The realms of the senses and consciousness are the inner dharmas. The so-called generation is the initial generation from what has never been generated. The so-called subsequent establishment of name is to express things in words in a differentiated way. These are also dependent on similarities, and there are dissimilar parts, divided into two kinds. What is dependent on similarities? For example, the production of barley and other fruits depends on the seeds of barley and so on. Among them, there will also be differences due to what kind of conditions are encountered. For example, if the seeds of Madu Longga are soaked in madder and then planted, then the fruits it bears, the inner and outer roots and stems will turn red. Although the nature of Madu Longga has not disappeared, and it still has the color of madder, it is dependent on similarities when it matures. When the seeds of Madu Longga are soaked in madder, the inner and outer roots and stems turn completely red when they mature, but the seeds do not turn red, which is the dissimilar part. If the grains are slightly fried and then sown as seeds, then they will grow from seedlings to ears, but when the fruits mature, they will become blind like eyes due to the fried conditions.
