Glory causes suffering; living with the unruly, initially joyful and compliant, becomes joyless due to disputes in the middle, and ultimately leads to hatred. Regard oneself as life itself; initially, a small friendship, becomes deeper in the middle, and ultimately intimate with extreme joy. Noble friends are like flowing water, initially swift and vast, gradually increasing in breadth, flowing without ceasing. Livestock recognize through scent, Brahmins through the knowledge of the Vedas, doctors through the knowledge of medicine, and kings through listening. Those who wish to destroy their enemies should always contemplate sweet words and memories, like deer trapped by song, confuse their minds and kill them. Whoever has wealth has friends; whoever has wealth has relatives; whoever has wealth has the people of the world; whoever has wealth is wise. When there is no wealth, even relatives, children, wives, and the wretched will abandon you; when there is wealth, they will return to rely on you. Wealth is the relative of the people of the world. If one attains a supreme position, friends, companions, and others, even those never seen before, will come to worship. When wealth is exhausted and status declines, even one's own people will become enemies. A person without wealth, even if speaking the truth, will be abandoned. Secrecy or inner strictness, when forbearance reaches its limit, and when employing strategies against the enemy, the enemy will undoubtedly be terrified. Towards the enemy's camp, the wise should sever the root of their faith, and then unite with one's own side, killing those who have caused harm in the past. If someone becomes an enemy and then wishes to reconcile, it is like approaching death, like the womb of a female mule. Reconciling with an enemy and sleeping trustingly in peace is like sleeping on the top of a tree, falling and dying. If sons or brothers, or in-laws, associating friends, are alienated by the king, it is undoubtedly wise to keep this secret. Softness destroys the unyielding, gentleness destroys the harsh, there is nothing that cannot be tamed by softness, therefore softness is sharper than diamond. Equal wealth, equal power, skilled in circumstances and diligent
