Treatise on Conduct Treatise on Conduct In Sanskrit: Niti Shastra. In Tibetan: Treatise on Conduct. Homage to the All-Knowing One! From the specific categories of treatises on meaning, in order for this treatise to benefit me and for people to generate wisdom, Masura has compiled and explained it. In order to bring joy to the world, in order to abandon evil conduct, in order to learn wisdom and accomplish true meaning, these verses are spoken for the sake of generating wisdom. One should be skilled and accustomed to all things. One should practice Dharma and protect the appearances of others. One should abandon anger and rely on the wise. One should speak truthfully and not speak meaningless words. One should respect Brahmins and not despise even the wicked. One should fear the king and conceal one's actions. One should not despise those known by enemies, one should not abandon pride, and one should not rely on base things. One should rely on beneficial food and please friends. One should not step on fire and not watch battles. One should listen to poetry and not harm sentient beings. One should not do what should not be done, and one should not divide wells. One should receive knowledge and not play with snakes. One should give generously as much as possible and not beg from the lowly. One should not praise oneself and not slander others. One should know this and not wander at night. One should not follow elephants that have broken free from their ropes. One should not walk without shoes and not travel without companions. One should abandon insane and evil thoughts. One should abandon fierce wives and rely on the pleasing. One should never associate with the unfamiliar. One should abandon desire for the king's maids and listen to the words of one's mother. One should not quarrel with anyone. One should stay away from young heifers. Never trust women. Do not enter wide rivers that are difficult to cross. Do not climb tall trees when drunk. One should accomplish all things and not abandon Dharma and wealth. In a place where there is no protection, never speak the secrets of everyone, do not trust everyone, and observe well. Do not make promises lightly, and strive for the endeavors of men. Speak secretly and do not speak irrelevant words. When a sudden whip comes, say, "Good, it has come." Make offerings to humans, gods, and Brahmins. One should always rely on the place of merit. One should always bathe, wear white clothes, and walk. Do not be too attached to women, and eat after melting (the attachment). Whoever is intelligent should act in this way.

It is like this: Know that life is without illness and long. The first chapter of the medical treatise written by Masuraksha. I keep secrets, and others keep secrets, guarding them like cherishing an only child. Like the earth, treat everyone equally, and people are very happy because of this. Do not speak key words, do not proclaim things that will touch the point. Speaking of other people's key points is like a person holding a weapon. Do not hesitate in your heart, speak from your mouth like brown sugar water. Respect each other and trust each other, and then you can destroy the position of words or weapons. Even if the enemy says nice things, the wise should not ignore it. That will eventually cause harm, just as poison causes unbearable harm. One's own strength is as unstable as a river, and the width of the river must be thoroughly investigated. Cross it at the appropriate time like this, and think about your own interests like this. Before fear comes, be afraid before that. If fear has already appeared, then put down fear and strike. Think of things like a water bird, and suppress the other party like a lion. Like a cat smelling the scent of a mouse, be very humble after knowing it. One of the lion, one of the water bird, four lessons of the domestic pigeon, five of the crow and six of the dog, three lessons of the donkey. No matter how many things there are, anyone who wants to do it must eliminate all meaningless actions, this is what is called one of the lion. The senses must be well restrained, and according to the place and time, appropriately, things must be investigated and thought about, the wise man is like a water bird. Combing hair, standing and fighting, distributing food equally to relatives, fully suppressing women, and being close to each other, these are the four lessons of the domestic pigeon. Secret mating and arrogance, settling down on time, being cautious and distrustful, these are the five lessons of the crow. Eating a lot and eating a little is okay, sleeping well, waking up quickly, being close to the brave, and being firm, these are the six behaviors of the dog. If you carry a heavy load, lift it up, do not get tired of cold and heat, always know contentment, these are the three behaviors of the donkey. Like this, you must know these twenty, anyone who does this can defeat the enemy, all enemies
