For pain in the ribs, haritaki is effective. To delay aging and maintain youth, amalaki should be given. For wounds, the three fruits and guggulu are effective. The above-mentioned prescriptions are the essence of collected medicines, capable of pacifying all diseases. They should also be measured and used according to the region, time, and intensity of the disease. The well-spoken treatises by sages like Son of Constant Knowledge, although vast and boundless, when great sages like Boatman and Fire-Entry and others reached a consensus and gathered together, it was when Sage Fire-Entry dispelled doubts and inquired of Sage Son of Constant Knowledge that I explained this concise summary of the sutra's meaning. World-Honored One, here some patients, although endowed with courage, the merits of medicine, the merits of nursing, and treatment by elderly physicians in accordance with the scriptures, the disease still exhausts the body and life is endangered. Some may heal even without medicine and treatment. However, since there seems to be no certainty regarding the difference between effective and ineffective results, what is the principle of pacifying diseases as stated in the scriptures here? When asked who among the assembly of disciples, such as Fire-Entry, fully explained that principle, whether treated or not, there is no diminution or difference. Even without possessing the sixty conditions for treating diseases and without treatment, there is a possibility of recovery. However, for those drowning in the mire of disease, the doctor is like someone pulling them out by the hand. For all who wish to live, medicine is what guides them. Therefore, the ritual of treating diseases should not be forgotten and must be remembered. If performed according to the ritual, it can be cured. If forgotten, it cannot be cured. Therefore, without a cause, one cannot be pacified on one's own. For any disease, if all the above-mentioned treatments are performed perfectly, then one will not die, treatment is important. Therefore, there is a method of treatment, it is not that there is no method of treatment, treatment exists. A wise doctor, treating with ritual and with medicine

Even if endowed with sixteen branches, the merits of medicine may be reversed due to past karma and fail to be accomplished. Some, even if they perform successful treatments such as fire therapy, hydrotherapy, fumigation, and stopping diarrhea, still fail to be effective. Similarly, giving milk to enhance the body's vitality may instead cause it to become emaciated; for those with weak bodies, even using the medicine Be'u ga may not make them strong. Some, even if they take medicines such as meat, kasara, and tre'u that can induce sleep, still cannot generate appetite. Some, even if they use medicines to stop diarrhea, still do not benefit. This is uncertain and filled with doubt. Some, even if they eat poison for no reason, can digest it; some, even without taking medicine to treat the throat disease Rohida, can heal on their own. However, the ultimate result of all accomplishments is certain death at an uncertain time. Therefore, one should strive to treat it diligently, and if one can persist, one will not die no matter what. Therefore, sandalwood and other medicines can eliminate fever, and for plagues, one should undertake fasting and vitality-enhancing treatments. As it is said in previous treatises, this has become well-known and established as a name. If the four branches of treating diseases are all present, then one should carefully examine, then prepare the medicine and treat. Therefore, for those who are afflicted, weakened, and tormented by disease, one should not undertake treatment filled with doubt, but should abandon doubts and treat. Thus, this medical treatise is like the nectar that directly eliminates the diseases of beings, and is the protective thread that prevents the decline of those who are frightened and manifested by disease. If a doctor harbors evil thoughts, like a bad vessel, then it will immediately turn into the poison Halahala. If one does not correctly understand and study the meaning of medicine, but only values and recites the words of medicine, one should stay away from such a person, just like Yama holding a rope in his hand. Relying on the lineage that comes from a family of wise doctors and being accustomed to the work of healing is the best. Wise people should desire such good oral instructions. Thus, it possesses all the merits of the medical treatise and has abandoned all the faults of the treatise. This is the entirety of the treatise on healing.
