Not only is it manifest, but non-valid cognition is also the direct perception of experiencing an object. Because for a traveler, the direct perception that arises grasping the nature of a mirage, at that very moment, grasps the water-consciousness as non-valid cognition. Because grasping meaninglessness itself is non-valid cognition, and ascertaining the reality of a mirage is also ascertaining the absence of fabricated water. Even so, just as knowing the place devoid of a pot is knowing the place of the pot, therefore, knowing the absence of a pot is direct perception, so too should this be understood. Here, the later consciousness and the earlier non-valid consciousness are not the knower and the known, because if something is established, something else is not established, that is the expression of its sign, but those that are uniquely established are not the sign and the object possessing the sign. If valid cognition and non-valid cognition are direct perception, then, how should one understand what is said about establishing the commonality of valid cognition and the other, and that when determining in that way from similar phenomena, it does not go beyond subsequent inference? It is said that for those who have not experienced what exists in one's own and others' minds, inference following the observation of similarities with clear consciousnesses that have been experienced closely reveals the nature of valid and non-valid cognition, but not for the experience itself that exists in one's own mind, because it is not appropriate to apply those terms to those. Therefore, in short, a general statement should be made, otherwise, it would be said that valid cognition and the other are established, etc., without making a general statement. If the clear consciousnesses that exist in one's own mind are also valid and non-valid cognitions only from inference, how would it be said that it is apart from the clear consciousnesses of the object experienced by the student? When all clear consciousnesses become valid and non-valid cognitions from inference, then, at that time, saying "apart from" becomes meaningless. Saying "experience" is for the sake of non-valid cognition, as long as one has not experienced without an object, one will not know it as non-valid cognition.

Therefore, in order to explain that 'an experience without an object should be known as not being a valid cognition,' it is said to have an object of experience. If it is determined to be valid cognition, but there is no experience of the object, then it will not change. Therefore, knowing it as valid cognition is also determined to change from the experience of the object by valid cognition. To explain this, it is said to have an object of experience. If the later consciousness is determined to be valid cognition from the same dharma as the previous consciousness, then wouldn't it become non-perception? It does not become non-perception, because there is no observation of 'this is the same as the previous consciousness.' However, from the cessation of terminology, in the realization of consciousness itself, it will be determined to be valid cognition. Or, only after the experience, if all consciousness is meaningless, it will not arise. Because it is realization, even if doubt arises later, valid cognition and non-valid cognition are held by perception itself. Furthermore, as long as perception arises, if those things that are held without difference are held with 'is,' then holding the cause and effect from one thing will hold everything. If one consciousness is distinguished, even if there is no general, it is said that the essence is one, then all the trees of the held transformation are distinguished. Similarly, even if the fires are different, they are the basis for knowing fire, because such things are said. If this fire is the cause of smoke, and this smoke is the result of fire, because it is the same as what was seen before, so it is not like the fire and smoke seen before. Isn't it to make subsequent inferences from the sign of the same dharma? There are two aspects of the same dharma: appearance and observation. Among them, for the collection that has not been definitely understood, it is clung to as 'it is this,' or definitely understood, that is, 'this is the same as what was seen before.' If so, then for the definitely held trees, etc., if there is the same dharma of the collection of what is seen, then there is also for the terminalia chebula that vomits due to touch and taste with different causes. Therefore, even if it is just the production of one, there will be confusion, so it is not a sign. The same dharma of parts exists in the seen cow and non-cow. What is seen depends on a collection, so it is not seen.
