I solely do not wish to understand other beings through direct perception, because those who see on the other shore will not know other beings through direct perception. The scriptures are also not the nature of letters. However, due to the power of the speaker, the knowledge that arises, in which speech, words, and letters appear distinct, is what it is. Although it exists in the continuum of the one who realizes, it is nominally designated as the words of the Tathagata, or Kapila, or the rice-eater, as the name of the author. Thus, all Buddhists consider this to be knowledge with the general aspect of expressing sound, although there are differences in sound, it is not so, because this is to prevent the expression of the differences in reasons such as not having seen before. We also do not accept understanding other beings through scripture, but rather through inference. In order to show that inference can be applied even without the actions of body and speech, it is said, "self-nature mind precedes," etc. This is just a brief meaning. The meaning of the limbs should be explained: mind refers to knowledge. Here, it should be fully understood as the nature of wanting to go, come, and speak everywhere, because it is the cause of action. Whatever action has it preceding it is mind-preceded. The word "preceding" here indicates the cause, because the cause exists before. If it is said that for the sake of external objects, the actions of mind-preceding in one's own continuum, which are spoken by the speaker, are observed through direct perception and inference, and then, in order to grasp in the continuum of others, the mind of consciousness of the nature of wanting to express will be known, then this situation is the same for the Mind-Only school as well. Action here is only an approximate representation. Opening the mouth and blood, etc., are also causes for knowing the minds of others. By saying "if," etc., it is to show that the other party has no inference through the manner that will be explained. After admitting inference, it shows that it will become the same.

Therefore, if it is mentioned "if oneself" etc., the movement of the mind is the movement of the mind. Here, the word "movement" means "doing." The words "doing" and "saying" refer to the physical and verbal expressions. Therefore, the meaning should be this: if, in order to see what one wants to do and say, wants to walk and speak, one observes those actions and speech in the continuum of others, and infers the movement of the mind from this, then this method is the same for those who assert mind-only. Therefore, they will also be able to infer the minds of others. Although the word "movement" is generally explained here, it is related to the context of "movement of the mind." Therefore, due to the power of context, general words will also have special meanings. To this, someone might think that those who assert the existence of external objects admit that physical and verbal actions are signs of the minds of others, but for those who assert that what is to be known is internal, how can it be the same without these? Therefore, it is also mentioned "that is also other knowledge" etc. Those who assert that what is to be known is internal do not think that there exists knowledge in the form of physical and verbal expressions, that is, knowledge that appears as physical and verbal expressions, which is no different from the movement of the minds of others. Knowledge other than my knowledge is other knowledge. The movement that is similar to and possesses this is the movement by other knowledge, and that is its special characteristic. Mentioning "special characteristic" includes wanting to do and wanting to say. In order to dispel the doubts of the proponents of external objects, it is mentioned "if the action of other knowledge" etc. You have never observed knowledge in the form of actions and words that is preceded by other knowledge. Therefore, how do you infer? This is the doubt of the former. Mentioning "because it is similar to those who assert that what is to be known is internal, it is not," there is no fault. Because this objection is the same for you.
