Commentary on the Establishment of Other Continuums. God of Discipline. Commentary on the Establishment of Other Continuums. God of Discipline. In Sanskrit: Santānantanāsiddhiṭīkā. In Tibetan: Commentary on the Establishment of Other Continuums. Homage to glorious Manjushri! To that guru of beings who proclaims all this as mere mind, having paid homage, I shall distinguish the establishment of other continuums. With verses such as "self-nature mind," the commentary, object to be expressed, and purpose of this treatise are shown. Therein, the very existence of other continuums is the object to be expressed. The establishment of the very existence of other continuums is the purpose. That purpose is accomplished by this treatise, so this is related by the characteristic of being what is to be accomplished together with the treatise, which is the means. Relations such as cause and effect are included within this, so they are not stated separately. Those who speak of external objects argue that, according to the view of mere consciousness, the very existence of other continuums is not reasonable. It is said that they argue thus, saying: According to the view that mind alone exists and external objects do not, there is no direct valid cognition for understanding other beings, because all cognitions focus only on their own part, or indeed have no focus. Because there is no action of body and speech, there is also no inference, for if other beings are to be inferred from the manifestations of body and speech, in the view of mere consciousness, there are no manifestations of body and speech. Scripture is also included within the aggregates of form, so if that is abandoned, it is simply impossible. If scripture is the nature of sound or the essence of letters, then neither of these exists in your view. Scripture as form is also not accepted as a valid means of cognition for such objects, for its object is considered to be beyond the scope of the two valid cognitions. Therefore, it is not possible to understand other beings through scripture. To those who speak of external objects, to understand such distinct views, one should say this: We...
