How to speak of the earth? Like this: Because it has abandoned its own nature, it is said to be "unclear." Having abandoned one's own nature, how is this to be understood? Because one cannot abandon one's own essence, if one abandons it, one will become without awareness. It has already been said. In that case, since there is neither self-awareness nor other-awareness, everything will become only nothingness. However, if it is said that because understanding through meaning is awareness, therefore it is not self-awareness, that is not correct. Understanding through meaning is to be realized only through the awareness of one's own essence. If there is also understanding through meaning for it, then it is also the same, there is no end. If understanding through meaning is the accomplishment of experiencing meaning, then what does understanding meaning do for experiencing meaning? If meaning is accomplished, that is fine, but if it is said that experiencing meaning is accomplished, that is not correct. Then, what is the accomplishment of meaning? If it is said to be arising, then all things will become awareness. However, if it is knowing meaning, then its meaning will become like this: from knowing meaning, knowing meaning is awareness, so the way of speaking is good. However, if it is from the meaning that has become knowledge that meaning is awareness, then what is the meaning that has become knowledge? If it is said to be appearing to knowledge, then if knowledge is not known, how is the appearance to knowledge known? If it is said that the meaning that is appearing is itself direct perception, then if it is established by direct perception, then one must rely on it alone, what is the use of understanding other meanings? Direct perception is itself, if it is not so, then it is not reasonable. It is not so, if knowledge is not direct perception, then direct perception itself and this itself are not reasonable. If knowledge is not direct perception, if there is the function of the eye, this will change, otherwise, since it is not other, what does knowledge do? If it is said that the function of the ear and so on is direct perception, then what is the function of the ear and so on? If it is said to be knowledge, then how is the hidden knowledge known? If it is said to be known from the function of the ear and so on itself, then if it is known by the direct perception of the function of the ear and so on, then where does knowledge come from? If it is not so, then what does the function of the ear and so on do? Do things arise according to your needs? Things arise only from causes, not from needs. Otherwise, your needs, without, things

It will not change. If the ears turn manifestly, what use is it to knowledge? If knowledge does not arise, then things will only become hidden. If knowledge arises, what use is it to things? Even so, it will still become hidden, because the arising of knowledge is not the manifestation of things. Because it becomes hidden, it will fall into the fault of being hidden. If it is seeing itself? Then how does seeing become like that? And what do you think? The so-called understanding of things is the very form of that knowledge. That should be realized by self-awareness, not by other knowledge that has the form of that which does not become exhausted. Therefore, it is reasonable to think that self-awareness alone is the establisher of the nature of knowledge. If the clear appearance arising from the power of meditation is direct perception, then the knowledge of dreams will also become direct perception. Non-deception also exists in it, because there is also going and obtaining there. This is not so, because mistaken and conventional knowledge, as well as inference arising from inference, memory and desire arising, are all like direct perception and are blurred. Apparent direct perception is of two kinds: with conceptualization and without conceptualization. Again, there are four kinds, which are explained as follows: Apparent direct perception has four kinds, conceptual knowledge has three kinds, and that which arises from a corrupted basis, and one is without conceptualization. Those two become four from the division of conceptualization into three kinds. Direct perception is free from conceptualization, therefore the three kinds of conceptualization are also apparent direct perception. Among them, mistaken knowledge is apparent direct perception because it arises from conceiving mirages and the like as water. Because it superimposes other meanings on things that exist conventionally, and clings to its essence. The knowledge of inference and its results, etc., is not direct perception because it clings to previously experienced things with conceptualization. The appearance of a collection of shimmering rays of mirage is direct perception itself, while clinging to water, etc., is apparent direct perception, because water is not made into direct perception.
