Endowed with a mother's womb. Born as a person with power. Attaining the bliss of liberation in the higher realms. That person is endowed with perfect enlightenment. Why is it that all these are. The supreme of right view. Is the fruit of the root of virtue. Endowed with faith and intelligence. From the supreme field of merit. A great happiness arises in the three realms. Not knowing such distinctions. For all the precious qualities. Faith, which has become a treasure. Always make it firm with that. Faith is like a mother. It generates all happiness. Therefore, the first of men. Should be well attended to with the mind. By abandoning the source, faith. The precious Dharma, the supreme Bodhi. Certainly cannot be grasped. Just as a king loses his kingdom. Like losing the fruit of enjoyment. If the power of faith is lost. Likewise, fruits are not obtained. Therefore, the wise person. Desiring to make the world happy. With the mind, greatly devoted. Always do what is beneficial. The remainder does not pacify faults. Otherwise, endowed with faith. All the accumulation of faults is burned. The lowly, the naked, the ignorant. Holding a skull in his hand. In this world, beggars appear. Look at the fruit of not giving. Begging and wandering in different houses. Always circling in hunger. Whoever stretches out his hand from his body. Like a dog, stays far away. When universally begging. Returning little, not even a single part. Whoever does not give food. The mouth is as thin as a needle, the stomach is like a mountain. The body is dry, the hair is clothing. The light of the sun is not visible. Hungry ghosts tormented by thirst. That fruit is not given by hand. It is said to be the fruit of not giving in time. The twenty-second chapter, a collection of various stories. Listen to the generation of joy in merit. Giving and merit are rare. On the body of the Sugata. If relics are placed. Bathing, offering, raising umbrellas, etc. Mandala food and drinks, etc. Clothes and flowers, etc. Light, faith, butter lamps. In the temple. Mattresses, cushions, etc. After offering fields and various things. Praising and prostrating. Such a multitude is perfectly complete. In the twenty-second chapter of the story. Again and again, praise of giving is spoken.

Oh! Like a lake filled with illusions, With flourishing flowers and leaves, Trees along with thorns. Possessing learning, contemplation, and wisdom, Those with such distinctions, Turn their backs on discipline. Though poor, the one with discipline is supreme, Not equal to the wealthy, Who lack the adornment of virtues. Though poor, noble individuals, Tasting the flavor of those virtues, Are more excellent than nectar. Like the lama to be remembered, Possessing virtues, noble, and glorious, Wealth and ornaments, Those kings, Wishing to draw near and make offerings, Therefore, should guard this discipline. Conquering worldly pleasures, Those with fear and hatred, Thinking with Dharma as the essence, The supreme bliss is attained by individuals, Those who wish to obtain, The vast bliss that cannot be stolen, Should guard this discipline. Falling away from discipline, subduing and harming, That one will experience fear. Those with discipline do not have those. From now until the next world, When going with the end as the goal, Wishing for places of happiness, Should guard this discipline. If there is reliance and certainty in discipline, Then it is not the nature of lower realms and afflictions. Because of wrong views, one strays from the path, Therefore, to attain liberation, Wishing for a higher realm with signs, Should guard this discipline. The indestructible, unseizable ornament, Is this discipline, should be guarded. Discipline is the best of wealth, It cannot be taken or stolen by others. Discipline is steadfast, when dying, Nothing else follows, not even the body. Discipline is the friend that follows, Discipline is the best of ornaments, That ornament is never lost, It is the friend of the heart. There is no help like discipline, Discipline is the true and reliable relative, It is father, mother, and son, Discipline gives what is desired, It bestows this result with power. The twenty-third discourse on discipline. Whatever merit is accumulated in thousands of eons, Such as generosity and offerings to the Sugatas, All those virtuous deeds, Are destroyed by a single instance of anger. There is no sin equal to hatred, There is no asceticism equal to patience.
