Practices. Thus, after manifestly praising him in that way, the monkey was also released from behind him, and a guard was appointed to protect him, and he became invisible there. Therefore, if there is an act of patience, there will be patience, and if there is not, then it is not. For virtuous deeds, even harm is rejoiced as if gaining a profit. Therefore, the story of patience should also be told. If even those who have become animals have the power to examine things individually in this way, how can those who have become humans, or those who claim to be renunciates, be beautiful if they do not possess such patience? It should also be said in this way. The praise of the Tathagata's qualities, as well as making offerings and listening to the Dharma, should also be told. The story of the buffalo's birth, the thirty-third. A naturally virtuous master, even if not urged, will still engage in evil deeds like using fire, because he is not accustomed to virtue. This is also how a Bodhisattva in a certain forest became a bird, a bird-wooden horse with beautiful wing colors and various forms, and lived there. So it is said. Because of being accustomed to compassion, even in such a place, the bird-wooden horse's livelihood does not involve the fault of killing living beings. The sprouts of trees and shrubs are very bright, the flowers are fragrant and sweet, soaked in nectar, and the fruits of various tastes, fragrances, and colors are sufficient to sustain life. He also teaches the Dharma to others according to reason, helps the poor as much as he can, and also prevents evil people from doing unreasonable things, clearly showing the benefit of helping others. That great Bodhisattva protected the many beings living in that forest, making them feel happy as if they had a teacher, as if they had a spiritual friend, as if they had a doctor, as if they were protected by a kind and gentle king. Then, after a while, that great Bodhisattva, out of compassion for sentient beings, was walking in the forest, and on one side of the forest, he saw a lion afflicted with a severe disease, writhing as if struck by a poisoned arrow, and the places where it played were covered with dust, becoming dirty and chaotic. Driven by compassion, he went to it and asked: King of beasts, you

If your body is so unwell, what is the reason for this? Is it because you have overcome the elephants with arrogance? Or because you ran too fast and caught up with the wild beasts? Or because you jumped too high and made you so tired? Or because the arrows shot by the hunters hit you? If you can tell me, please speak. Tell me, what can be done to solve this problem. If I have the power to help you, I will do my best to do it and make you recover. The lion said: You, who are the most outstanding in bird diseases, are so good, so good! The reason why I am so unwell is not because I used too much force, nor because I was hit by the hunter's arrow, but because a piece of bone like this is stuck in my throat, I can't swallow it, and I can't take it out, just like a thorn stuck in the flesh, I am very painful. So, now is the time for friends to help me solve this problem, please think of a way to get me out of the pain. Then, the Bodhisattva thought with keen wisdom about the way to remove the thorn. He found a piece of wood that could open the lion's mouth and said to the lion: Please open your mouth as much as you can. The lion did the same. Then, the Bodhisattva put the wood well between the lion's teeth, entered its throat, and used his mouth to move one end of the bone fragment stuck on the esophagus to loosen it, and then grabbed the other end and pulled it out, and when pulling it out, he also pulled out the wood that opened its mouth and threw it away. Keen wisdom has been accustomed to for hundreds of lifetimes, and can be pulled out like that even without practice. Even the most skilled and proficient doctors cannot remove that thorn even if they try very hard. As soon as the thorn was pulled out, immediately, its pain and sorrow disappeared. After the thorn was pulled out, how happy it was! Because the thorn was pulled out, it was so happy. The nature of noble people is like this, will noble people accomplish such things for others? Even if the pain is eliminated, they will experience happiness and pain deeply like that. Even if one's own happiness is achieved, it will not be like that. That great Bodhisattva thus calmed its pain and felt very happy in his heart.
