That which is called "is" is the complete practice of views of self, etc. That which is called "loss of discipline" is the further practice of offenses that have been prescribed. That which is called "loss of livelihood" is wrong livelihood. That which is called "clean vase" is a water vessel for usable water and mixed water. That which is called "vase for the toilet" is a water vessel that has been used. That which is called "store" is that there is a portion that needs water. That which is called "not store" is that there is a portion that does not need water. That which is called "no water" is that there is absolutely no water. Furthermore, that which is called "store" is that it has no way of abiding. That which is called "mixed" is that there is no suddenly added water. That which is called "no water" is that both are completely absent. That which is called "if able" is being capable. That which is called "by hand gesture" is indicating by showing the sign of the hand. That which is called "as it abides" is where the place of abiding is. That which is called "not speaking to each other" is not speaking with words. That which is called "like being with an enemy" is not speaking at all, like sitting together with an enemy. That which is called "banner of the heretics" is the sign of the heretics, namely the vow of silence. That which is called "not speaking" is staying without words. That which is called "one should not take a vow of silence" is that one should not first take a vow and then take up the ascetic practice of silence. That which is called "will become a transgression" will become an offense. If one takes a vow with a view of purity and liberation, then it will become a grave offense belonging to the time of schism in the Sangha. These and so forth are because those monks had promised to stay for the summer retreat, but had not done the pravāraṇā, and therefore arrived here, so this act of doing the pravāraṇā is permitted. That which is called "doubt" is the knowledge arising from signs. That which is called "place" is the cause. That which is called "when the pravāraṇā will occur in ten days or half a month" is before that time. In some, it says in seven or eight days. That which is called "in the area of practice" is the village near the monastery. One should say, "On this day the Sangha will do the pravāraṇā," which means, "From now on, on this day the Sangha will do the pravāraṇā, I am telling you all."
