This is the teaching that has been shown. The summary of the meaning of the verses, the summary of the meaning of the first chapter is complete. Those who have gone for refuge to the Buddha, those who, day and night, constantly remember the Buddha, that is the gain of humans. Those who have gone for refuge to the Dharma, those who, day and night, constantly remember the Dharma, that is the gain of humans. Those who have gone for refuge to the Sangha, those who, day and night, constantly remember the Sangha, that is the gain of humans. These are the three verses. Why did the Blessed One say this? It is said that it was spoken in order to make the non-believers believe, and also to make the believers always practice, respect, and diligently apply themselves to the practice. What is meant by "those who have gone for refuge to the Buddha"? It means that whoever has the four causes in their continuum is a Buddha, that is, one who has fully realized the mundane in all aspects, one who has fully realized the supramundane in all aspects, one who has abandoned all defilements together with their imprints, and one who is able to benefit sentient beings in all aspects. In another way, whoever has the five perfections is a Buddha, that is, perfection of wisdom, perfection of abandonment, perfection of compassion, perfection of inexhaustibility, and perfection of incomparability. Among these, perfection of wisdom is because one possesses unobstructed wisdom. Even the wisdom of noble hearers and self-Buddhas arises here, but since the realm of the Buddha is unobstructed, there is no hindrance to all that is to be known. Therefore, it is said: The wisdom of the Tathagata is without attachment and without obstruction to the past, and the wisdom that arises in the present and the future is also without attachment and without obstruction. Perfection of abandonment is the abandonment of subtle imprints and their aggregates, as it is said: Protector, you, together with your imprints, have no faults at all. Such is the case. Perfection of compassion is that with great compassion, looking at the world three times during the day and three times during the night, and completely

It is saving, because it possesses great compassion, in all the worlds, day and night, it observes day and night in six aspects, I pay homage to the mind that benefits and brings happiness. It is said like that. Then, what is the difference between loving-kindness and great loving-kindness? Answer: There are eight differences. Nature and aspect, object and ground, lineage and attainment of freedom from attachment, dissimilar and similar arising of compassion, saving and not saving. Among them, nature is because it is the nature of non-anger and non-ignorance. Aspect is because it arises in the aspect of suffering and in the three. Object is because it is focused on one realm and three realms. Ground is because it is the four dhyanas and the fourth dhyana. Lineage is because it is born in the lineage of hearers, solitary Buddhas, and Buddhas. The attainment of freedom from attachment is because it is attained by being free from attachment to the desire realm and the peak of existence. Compassion arises from dissimilarity and similarity, as well as complete saving and complete not saving. The perfection of unbearableness is because it is free from birth, death, sickness, old age, sorrow, and decay, and has truly attained the limit of the world, that is, has attained the realm of nirvana without remainder, this is the general definition. The perfection of unequaledness is because it has become the supreme of all minds, that is, has attained mastery over all dharmas, and all the perfections of qualities related to wish-fulfillment have manifested, this is the general definition. Do all Buddhas possess all these qualities without difference? No. However, through the accumulation of merit and the Dharmakaya, and through the practice of benefiting sentient beings, all Buddhas are equal, not in terms of lifespan, caste, lineage, and measure. They are equal in three causes: in the past, having attained the perfect accumulation of merit and wisdom, as well as the perfection of the Dharmakaya and the conduct of the world. There are differences in lifespan, caste, lineage, and measure, that is, there are long and short lifespans, as well as differences in the royal caste and the Brahmin caste.
