For the sake of (clarifying) the basis, it is said, "They abandon their homes," and so on. In Rajagriha, in Udumbarika, a Brahmin named Nyagrodha, who performed a grand lotus sacrifice, possessed sixteen villages in the Dharma, thirty villages of slaves, lacking one thousand castrated bulls, sixty billion in property, and eighty granaries filled with grain and gold, he wanted to have his son, Great Light, marry a wife. But he could not stop his words, and he said, "If there is a daughter whose appearance surpasses the brilliance of Jambu River gold and possesses perfect features, then I will marry her." Later, he married a woman named Seskyasangmo from the land of Magadha. He abandoned her, became a monk, and attained the fruit of Arhatship. To control him, two verses were spoken. "Through effort" means to be zealous in virtuous deeds. To show the perfect union, to show the perfect intention, therefore it is said, "mindful." If for some reason mindfulness is lost, it is because of negligence that mindfulness is lost. If one abides in mindfulness, then it is not lost. It is said in the sutras that if one guards the gate with mindfulness, one will abandon the unwholesome. "They do not like home" means that home is the house to be entered. Disliking home is because of possessing mindfulness and special diligence. Because in the home, one is distracted by distractions and evil deeds. If someone does so, then they accept ordination, completely abandoning the dwelling of the home. Having abandoned the home, at another time, because of possessing mindfulness and diligence, they meditate on the path, abandoning the river of the nature of the afflictions of the three realms. The example here is like a swan. For example, just as a swan abandons a bad lake, just as it abandons the muddy water stirred up by rainwater. Or, a bad lake means small water, referring to small lakes, ponds, and all puddles. Therefore, to show that by striving to abandon the river, one actually enters the city of Nirvana, it is said, "the steadfast world," and so on.

Moreover, it is said, 'Like geese flying in the path of the sun.' The reason for saying that the sun travels in the path of the sky is this. In this, it shows the place where the gods travel, and also shows traveling downwards and directly. 'Goes to the sky by miraculous power.' This means that, just as geese fly in the sky by the power of their wings, so do the great masters cross the river without attachment or joy to the chaotic. Just as the sun's disc travels in the sky, so too does it travel everywhere to accomplish the benefit of others. What is that like, like the meaning of the evil destinies and so on. For the sake of benefiting the beings to be tamed. Therefore, for the sake of the beings to be tamed, the body is abandoned like a vessel of poison. 'Having definitely emerged from the world' means going without turning back in samsara. Steadfastness means realizing selflessness, not fearing annihilation. If individual ordinary people have hearing and also have some complete realization and do not fear annihilation, then is that also definitely emerging? The answer is, 'Having completely destroyed the hosts of demons.' This means that the collection of afflictions is abandoned by knowing it as it is. Because the power of afflictions has been destroyed, steadfastness is definitely emerging, not anything else. Also, in order to show the faults of those who dwell carelessly at home, it is said, 'Brahmacharya not practiced,' and so on. When the Blessed One was going for alms in Shravasti, the venerable Ananda, who was following behind, saw an old and decrepit couple, so old that they were bent like a cow's nose ring. He also saw another couple sitting on a pile of brooms, cherishing each other like an old water bird couple. The Blessed One told Ananda, 'If this couple had accumulated abundant wealth in their youth, then it would be possible to obtain happiness, because they would become the best in the family. If they were to renounce, they would realize the fruit of an Arhat.' Like that.
