In this fourth place, it is thus declared for the sake of the three stainless body, speech, and mind, as well as the path of increase and non-action, etc. So, how should we regard what is written as "knowing thus, seeing thus"? Furthermore, regarding the matter of "a monk's truthful speech," the introduction is in Shravasti. Then, when another monk became solitary and secluded, while abiding in correct concentration inwardly, such thoughts arose in his mind: How should one know and how should one see in order for a monk's view to become completely pure? Then, that monk arose from meditation and went to another monk, and having approached, he said to that monk: Venerable one, how should one know and see in order for a monk's view to become exceedingly pure? Venerable one, if a monk sees with correct wisdom, as it is, the arising, ceasing, taste, fault, and escape from the six sense spheres of contact, then, venerable one, knowing thus and seeing thus, a monk's view becomes exceedingly pure. Then, that monk, not being satisfied with that monk's answer, went to another monk, and having approached, he said to that other monk: Venerable one, how should a monk know and how should a monk see in order for a monk's view to become exceedingly pure? Venerable one, if for a monk, the arising, ceasing, taste, fault, and escape from the six elements are completely understood with correct wisdom, as it is, seeing thus, a monk's view becomes exceedingly pure. Then, that monk, not being satisfied with that monk's question and answer, as before, Venerable one, how should one know and how should one see in order for a monk's view to become exceedingly pure? Venerable one, if with regard to the arising, ceasing, taste, fault, and escape from the four kinds of food, with correct wisdom, as it is,

Seeing it as it is, the monk's view becomes extremely pure. Then, that monk, not satisfied with the answer of that monk, from "How does the venerable one know and see, so that the monk's view becomes extremely pure?" to "The venerable one inwardly sees the five aggregates of clinging, seeing them as fruit, as sores, as harm, as impermanent, as suffering, as empty, and as without self. Seeing it as it is, the monk's view becomes extremely pure." Then, that monk, not satisfied with the answer of that monk, from "went to where the Blessed One was" to "sat down on one side." That monk said to the Blessed One: "Venerable one, here, when I was alone in seclusion, abiding in inner concentration, such thoughts arose in my mind," and so on, as before, from "How does one know and see, so that the monk's view becomes extremely pure?" to "I arose from inner concentration and went to another monk, and having gone, I said to that monk: 'Venerable one, how does one know and see, so that the monk's view becomes extremely pure?'" He said: "Venerable one, whatever arises from the six sense spheres of contact," and so on, as before, extensively. That monk was not satisfied with the answer, from "I was not satisfied with the answer of that monk" to "went to where the Blessed One was, and having gone, Venerable one, I ask the Blessed One about this very meaning. Venerable one, how does one know and see, so that the monk's view becomes extremely pure?" Monk, there was a man in the past who had seen and heard of a sorrowful tree. Then, that man went to another man who had seen the sorrowful tree, and having gone, he said to that man who had seen the sorrowful tree: "Hey,
