Because of distorted views, they are not the views of the noble ones. As the verse says: What the noble ones say is happiness, others perceive as suffering; what others say is happiness, the noble ones perceive as suffering. Some others say that two are the truths of the noble ones, and two are both noble and the truths of the noble ones. When one aspect of feeling is the nature of suffering, how can it be said that all contaminated formations are suffering? The agreeable, the disagreeable, and those other contaminated things, because they possess the three natures of suffering, are all without exception suffering. There are three natures of suffering: the suffering of suffering, the suffering of formation, and the suffering of change. Because of these, all contaminated formations are without exception suffering. Among them, the agreeable are suffering because of the suffering of change; the disagreeable are suffering because of suffering; and those other than these are suffering because of the suffering of formation. What are the agreeable? What are the disagreeable? What are those that are neither? The answer is: the same as the three feelings and their order. Because of its influence, the formations that experience happiness, etc., also obtain the names of agreeable, etc. The feeling of happiness is the nature of the suffering of change. The sutra says: The feeling of happiness is happy when it arises, happy when it remains, and suffering when it changes. Suffering is suffering by its own nature. The sutra says: The feeling of suffering is suffering when it arises, and suffering when it remains. The feeling that is neither happiness nor suffering is suffering only because of formation, because it manifests due to conditions. It is said: Whatever is impermanent is suffering. The formations that experience it are also spoken of in the same way as feelings. Others say that the nature of suffering is the nature of suffering, so suffering...

It is suffering itself. It is also said that even the activity itself is suffering. The suffering of change is also suffering, which is said to be uncommon to both the lovable and the unlovable. All activities are suffering because of the suffering of activity itself, and only the noble ones can see them. Here it is said: There is a single hair in the palm of the hand, which people cannot perceive, but when that hair gets into the eye, it is like discomfort and causes harm. A child strokes the palm of his hand and does not perceive the hair of the suffering of action. The noble one is like an eye, so he is very disgusted by it. Just as the noble ones have the thought of suffering even for those at the peak of existence, so the children do not have the thought of suffering even for the aggregates of the uninterrupted hell. If that is the case, then the path is also a conditioned phenomenon, so it should become the suffering of action itself, if you ask? Answer: Because the characteristic of suffering is incompatible, the path is not suffering, because its arising is not incompatible with the noble ones who lead to the exhaustion of all suffering. When they see Nirvana as peace, they also see the cessation of suffering as peace. When there is also happiness in these, why is only suffering called the noble truth? Some say that it is because of experiencing happiness, just as there are pea pods, etc., but it is shown as a pile of peas. Which wise person would think that the happiness of the small period of time when it is soaked in water is the happiness of the fruit? It is also said: Because it is the cause of suffering, because it produces many sufferings, when there is suffering, one desires happiness, and happiness is considered suffering. All existence, together with happiness, is seen as suffering by the noble ones who regard the suffering of action as one taste. Therefore, only suffering is established as the noble truth, not happiness. Now, how do you see the feeling of the nature of happiness as suffering? It is incompatible with the nature of impermanence.

It is because of suffering. For example, form and perception, etc., are also regarded as suffering, but they are not as painful as the feeling of suffering itself. If one thinks that something is the cause of suffering, then it is the aspect of the origin of suffering (Samudaya), not the aspect of suffering (Dukkha). How can the perception of suffering arise in the noble ones who are born in the form realm and the formless realm? Because their aggregates are not the cause of the feeling of suffering. Why is the suffering of formations (samskara-dukkha) mentioned in the sutras? If it is regarded as suffering because of impermanence, then what is the difference between impermanence and the aspect of suffering? Because it is subject to arising and ceasing, it is regarded as impermanent, and because it is disagreeable, it is regarded as suffering. If one sees impermanence, it becomes disagreeable, therefore the aspect of impermanence leads to the aspect of suffering. Some say that the so-called feeling of happiness does not exist, and everything is only suffering. How should this be understood? It should be understood from the sutras and reasoning. First, how is it said in the sutras? The Blessed One said, "Whatever is felt, that is suffering here." And, "The feeling of happiness should be regarded as suffering." And, "The idea of happiness in suffering is a reversed perception." That is how it is in the sutras. How is it said from reasoning? Because the cause of happiness is unstable. Some think that the causes of happiness are drinks, food, cold, warmth, etc., but if they are used excessively or at inappropriate times, they also become causes of suffering. It is unreasonable for the cause of happiness to increase or be equal and cause suffering at other times, so they are the causes of suffering from the beginning and not the causes of happiness. In the end, the suffering will increase and be eliminated. The same should be said for the differences in behavior. Because the antidote to suffering and the difference of suffering give rise to the idea of happiness. As long as hunger
