All will learn, and all the Bodhisattvas who have appeared in the ten directions, all the grounds for learning of the Bodhisattvas who are now learning, and all the precepts of the Bodhisattvas, namely: the precepts of discipline, the precepts of gathering virtuous dharmas, and the precepts of benefiting sentient beings, may I receive them? Please say. He also replies: I may receive them. That wise Bodhisattva should also say so two or three times. If asked, the Bodhisattva who receives should also promise three times. Thus, the wise Bodhisattva should truly bestow the precepts of the Bodhisattva's discipline upon the Bodhisattva who receives them three times, and also make him promise. Before the Bodhisattva who receives rises, in front of that Tathagata's image, at the feet of all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas who abide and protect in the ten directions, with palms joined, pray for knowledge as follows: The Bodhisattva named so-and-so, from me, the Bodhisattva named so-and-so, has truly received the precepts of the Bodhisattva's discipline three times. I, named so-and-so, from the Bodhisattva named so-and-so, have truly received the precepts of the Bodhisattva's discipline, I am the witness, in the immeasurable and boundless realms of the ten directions, even the hidden supreme ones, who have wisdom that is not hidden from all sentient beings, please know. Say so two or three times. Even if one is wise, one should not fail to receive the precepts of the Bodhisattva from all Bodhisattvas, that is, to receive them truly. One should not allow those who have no faith, who initially do not rejoice in, do not enter into, and do not contemplate the true reception of precepts, to receive them. One should not allow the greedy, the overwhelmed by desire, the greatly desirous, and the insatiable to receive them. One should not allow those who have fallen from discipline and those who are disrespectful and lax towards the trainings.

One should not be weary of that either. One should not be weary of anger, holding grudges, excessive impatience, and intolerance of others' faults. One should not be weary of being indolent and lazy, and of indulging mostly in the pleasure of sleep day and night, the pleasure of idle talk, and the pleasure of lying down, and of wasting time with worldly talk. One should not be weary of having a distracted mind, unable to meditate single-pointedly on virtue even for the time it takes to milk a cow. One should not be weary of being dull-witted and of a foolish nature, and of being too disheartened, and of disparaging the Bodhisattva's Sutra Pitaka and the mother of the Bodhisattva's Sutra Pitaka. Even if one has taken and fully understood this ritual of correctly taking the Bodhisattva vows, one should not rashly proclaim or make it known to beings who hate the Bodhisattva's Pitaka and lack faith. Why is that? Because if they hear these things, they will be obscured by the great obscuration of distrust and incomprehension, and they will become slanderers. For those who slander, the Bodhisattva who abides in the vows possesses an immeasurable accumulation of merit, and at the same time, they will possess the same amount of sinful words, sinful views, and sinful conceptualizations, and as long as they have not completely abandoned all of these, they will only possess the same amount of immeasurable non-merit. For those who wish to correctly take the Bodhisattva's vows of morality, one should first proclaim from this mother of the Bodhisattva's Sutra Pitaka the trainings of the Bodhisattva and the faults that have been pointed out. If they examine it from the depths of their heart and analyze it individually with wisdom and become joyful, and it is not for the sake of making others understand correctly, nor for the sake of competing with others, then one should know that they are steadfast Bodhisattvas. They should also accept and impart the ritual of correctly taking the vows of morality in this way. Bodhisattva morality

After the ceremony of properly taking the vows of the earth is completed, that bodhisattva should make offerings to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas residing in the boundless and infinite realms of the ten directions, touch their feet with his head, and then rise. Taking the vows of the bodhisattva's discipline is more excellent than all vows taken, for it possesses unsurpassed merit and immeasurable accumulation of merit, is generated by the most virtuous intention of mind, and is the antidote to all kinds of harmful actions towards all sentient beings. Those who have properly taken the vows of individual liberation are like this: relying on the complete upholding of merit, taking the vows of discipline properly does not even come close to one hundredth part of that. A thousandth part, number, part, calculation, analogy, and cause do not even come close. Furthermore, there are these benefits: at that time, for his virtue, the victorious ones and their retinues will always, with virtuous minds, regard him as if he were a beloved son. This is the nature of dharma. Therefore, as soon as the ceremony of properly taking the vows of discipline is completed, in the boundless and infinite realms of the ten directions, the Tathagatas and the Bodhisattvas abiding on the great earth will think, 'Who has properly received the vows of the bodhisattva's discipline in this way?' Afterwards, they will also think of that bodhisattva, and once they think of him, the eye of wisdom will enter. Their eye of wisdom will think like this, 'A bodhisattva named so-and-so in such-and-such a world has properly received the vows of the bodhisattva's discipline from a bodhisattva named so-and-so,' and they will understand it exactly as it is. All of them will treat him with kindness and affection, each with a good heart, like a son or a brother. Thus,
