will become futile. What is the Middle Way that is the path to enlightenment? The nature of the two does not exist at all, the nature of delusion in duality exists, and that is the nature of emptiness, which is considered the Middle Way. Thus it is said, the two are the apprehended and the apprehender. Its nature is self-nature. Therefore, everything does not exist, that is, the aggregates and so on do not exist. Appearing as two in non-duality is delusion. To this, the self-nature is the two aggregates and so on. Therefore, this is actually existent. To this, emptiness is empty of the two, separated from the two, is the self-nature of other-dependence, that is, the third of the aggregates and so on. Therefore, these are also existent. This is considered the Middle Way. The first self-nature of phenomena does not exist, while others do exist. Some exist and some do not exist, which is called the meaning of the Middle Way. So, what are the names of those self-natures? And from where are they named as those names? The imputed and the dependent, and the perfectly established, these three are named in order as imputed, arising from causes, and unchanging. Thus it is said, the self-nature of these three, as in order, has the names of imputed, dependent, and perfectly established, because of superimposing on delusion, and arising from causes, and being unchanging, as in order. Also, because of superimposing non-existence on that other-dependence, it is untrue imputation. The noble Maitreya also said in the Treatise on Distinguishing the Middle and the Extremes: Untrue imputation exists, in this the two do not exist, emptiness exists in this, in this also it exists. Neither empty nor not empty, therefore everything is said, because of existence, because of non-existence, because of existence, this is the Middle Way. Thus it is said. Others speak of the Middle Way in other ways, for example, these such as blue are not non-existent, because they are proven by experience. They are not existent, because if analyzed, they cannot be tolerated. If so, that is not true, because for what reason? Because what is experienced by experience

Because the falsehood eliminated by contradiction is not, therefore, it cannot be established as existent merely through experience, nor is it non-existent, because it is unreasonable. If it becomes a reason for not being existent, then it will become so if it is established as contradicting analytical observation. The dharmas such as the skandhas are non-existent in the ultimate sense, but existent in the conventional sense, and other schools consider this to be the Middle Way, but that is not true either, for if the dharmas of things are all non-existent, then how can there be conventional existence? Since it is not existent in the ultimate sense, how can it become existent? Because whatever is harmed by the supreme measure is non-existent in the ultimate sense. It cannot be established as existent by the conventional, which becomes a non-measure. How can it be said to exist conventionally? Furthermore, to the one who says that everything is non-existent in the ultimate sense, if everything is non-existent in everything, then one will surpass the nihilist. What was previously existent is destroyed by the antidote, at that time it will become an image. Thus it is said, if one says that everything is non-existent in everything, then one will surpass the nihilist, because the nihilists consider the truth, the Three Jewels, and the results of karma, etc., to be non-existent. However, if one says that the dharmas are non-existent because what was previously existent has been destroyed by the antidote, then at that time it becomes an image, just as in the Noble Perfection of Wisdom, the image of the Perfection of Wisdom is spoken of, from form is impermanent, which is the destruction of form, to consciousness is impermanent, which is the destruction of consciousness, those will be obtained. Because it appears there like a capacity, if so, what is the use of that Middle Way? Because capacity arises from confusion, it does not do the necessary tasks. It is said that the dharmas are non-existent in the ultimate sense because they are empty of capacity, but in the conventional sense they also appear to have capacity, therefore it is said to be the Middle Way, what is the use of such a Middle Way? Such a capacity arises from confusion, and because it is non-existent, it does not do the necessary tasks. Because in the conventional sense one sees cause and effect, so when the cause is established, the effect can be obtained. Because one sees the capacity of sprouts, etc., from seeds, etc.
