English

To fulfill the eighteen elements, the mind element is needed. Thus, the form aggregate is the twelve sources, the ten elements, and the dharma source and one element, which is the form aggregate in the classification of aggregates. When it is divided into sources, it is the ten sources, namely the eye source, ear source, nose source, tongue source, body source, form source, sound source, smell source, taste source, and touch source. The dharma source and one element refer to the non-revealing form therein. These should be understood as the eleven elements, from the eye element to the touch element. Thus, the form aggregate is distinguished. The consciousness aggregate is the mind source and the seven consciousness elements, which is the consciousness aggregate in the classification of aggregates. When it is divided into sources, it is the mind source. The seven consciousness elements are the eye consciousness element, ear consciousness element, nose consciousness element, tongue consciousness element, body consciousness element, mind element, and mind consciousness element. Thus, the consciousness aggregate should also be understood as being divided into elements and sources. The other three aggregates, namely feeling, perception, and volition, and one part of the form aggregate, the non-revealing form, and the four unconditioned phenomena, namely space, non-analytical cessation, analytical cessation, and suchness. Thus, these eight things should be understood as the dharma source and the dharma element. Thus, the five aggregates are explained as the twelve sources and the eighteen elements. Why is it called an element? Because they are without action and each holds its own characteristic. Being without action means that when the eye element produces another eye element, it does not think, "I will produce the eye element." The other seventeen elements should also be understood in the same way. Why are the aggregates and so on explained?

English

The so-called "thinking" refers to others thinking like this: Like this, there are no ayatanas and dhatus apart from the skandhas. Therefore, merely explaining the skandhas is already complete, and there is no need to explain the ayatanas and dhatus. To those who think like this, it should be said that it is to counteract the three types of self-grasping. The three types of self-grasping are: grasping as one, grasping as food, and grasping as the agent. The so-called "grasping as one" refers to the meaning of grasping the entire skandha as self. The so-called "grasping as food" refers to grasping as self that which enjoys the object. The so-called "grasping as the agent" refers to having an agent, grasping the agent as self. Therefore, in order to eliminate these three types of self-grasping, one should understand in order the intention of the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, in explaining the skandhas, ayatanas, and dhatus. Among the eighteen dhatus, which are with form? This is a question. Which are the nature of the form skandha? From the eye dhatu to the touch dhatu. How many are without form? The remaining ones, which are eight, from the eye consciousness dhatu to a part of the dharma dhatu. Among these eighteen dhatus, how many are demonstrable? This is a question. One, which is the form dhatu, is demonstrable as an object. The so-called demonstrable as an object means being able to demonstrate "this is here, that is there." Therefore, it is established that seventeen dhatus are undemonstrable. Among these eighteen dhatus, how many are with obstruction? Ten with form are with obstruction. The so-called "obstructing what" means not allowing others. Form obstructs the eye, because it cannot become the object of other sense faculties. Similarly, the other eight should also be understood, from ear to touch. The others are without obstruction, from eye consciousness to the dharma dhatu. Among these eighteen dhatus, how many are with outflows? This is a question. Fifteen are with outflows. The part of the last three, because they are declared last, are the last, which are the mind dhatu, the dharma dhatu, and the mind consciousness dhatu. A part of them is with outflows.

English

That which is without outflows is called the unconditioned. The fifteen realms are the eye realm, the form realm, and the eye consciousness realm, up to the body realm, the touch realm, and the body consciousness realm. That which arises together with outflows is with outflows. The outflows are the afflictions. How are they said to be with outflows? Because they are the manifest objects of experience for the arising of afflictions. That is, relying on the eye and relying on form, eye consciousness arises. The forms experienced by eye consciousness are cognized by mind consciousness. From cognition, afflictions arise. The remaining ones should also be spoken of in the same way. How many are without outflows? The share of the last three, which are the mind realm, the mind consciousness realm, and the dharma realm. The share of these three is one aspect of the dharma realm, which is called the unconditioned. Or, when they are gathered by the noble path, then they become without outflows. Among those eighteen realms, how many are with desire and fully endowed? And so on, is a question. How many are with desire and fully endowed? This is a synonym for being endowed with the desire realm. Endowed means seized, a synonym for fully endowed. All, that is, eighteen. How many are fully endowed with form? Fourteen, excluding the nose and tongue consciousness of smell and taste, which means that in the form realm there is no smell realm or taste realm, because they are free from the desire to eat with the mouth. Because there is no smell and taste, there is also no nose and tongue consciousness realm that grasps them. The remaining fourteen are there. How many are fully endowed with the formless? The last three, which are the mind realm, the dharma realm, and the mind consciousness realm. How many are not endowed? The share of three, which are those without outflows. How many are included in the aggregates here? Except for the unconditioned. How many are included in the aggregates of appropriation? Those with outflows. How many are virtuous?
