Thus, what are my merits? I realize the self-grasping in the very place of the self. Self-grasping also depends on the mind, because there is no self apart from it. Here, the self arises from the pride of thinking "I," so it is the self. Since the nature of mind is the abode of all things that arise from the mind, the nature of mind is regarded as the self. Here, if it is considered that the mind can be called the self, what is obvious about this? The Bhagavan said, "If the self is well tamed, the wise will attain heaven." Furthermore, it is also said to tame the mind, taming the mind is good, taming the mind brings happiness. Here it says, taming the mind, and if the nature of mind is tamed, happiness is attained. Therefore, the statement, "If the self is well tamed, the wise will attain heaven," also clearly refers to the nature of mind. Therefore, the eyes and so on are internal because they are close to the object of reliance of the mind that views the self as the self. Forms and so on, which have become objects of the environment, are external. In that case, the six realms of consciousness will not become internal, because they will not become the basis of the mind until they become the realm of mind. At any time, they themselves are diseases, so they do not transcend their own nature. What is with an object? The term "with an object" is because it is a category of realms, therefore "seven" is mentioned. Because it is not known what those seven are, the term "realm of mind" is mentioned. Are those with an object limited to these? No, it is also a part of the Dharma realm, and the word "also" here is a summary. The seven mind realms and one Dharma realm are also with an object, because these have objects, so they are with an object. Object, field of activity, and object are synonyms. The seven mind realms are the consciousnesses of eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind. A part of the Dharma realm is the nature of what arises from the mind. What is without an object? The remainder, which are also ten, namely the five sense realms of eye and so on, and the five object realms of form and so on. The Dharma realm of

Which aspect is not the nature of what arises from the mind. What is with conceptualization? It is said to be associated with the eighteen realms. The so-called mind realm, the realm of mind consciousness, and the aspect of the dharma realm are what are in accordance. These two are contemplation and subsequent recollection, and are in accordance. That itself is conceptualization, but others are not, because they are not in accordance with these two. The aspect of the dharma realm is what has accordance, but others are not. Among them, subsequent recollection is referred to as recollection itself, which is not forgetting the objects of mental experience. For the hidden meaning of the three times, the aspect of contemplation is the difference of wisdom that says, "This is like this, but not like that," or thinking is the conceptualization of contemplation. As it is said in the Compendium of Abhidharma, "What is the conceptualization of subsequent recollection? It is the arising of actions on what was previously experienced." "What is the conceptualization of contemplation? It is the conceptualization of contemplation on the hidden meanings of the past, future, and present." It is said like that. The remaining phenomena are established without conceptualization, and they are also fifteen realms, which is the aspect of the dharma realm, and they are without conceptualization. Among the eighteen realms, what is grasped? It is the five inner realms, which are the realms of eye, ear, nose, tongue, and body, and they are what is grasped. Haven't these been shown as two in other places? Although it has been shown, the past and future are said to be not grasped, because they are non-existent. It is not possible to say whether the non-existent is grasped or not grasped. The present is abiding in its own state, and because it is grasped by the mind and mental factors, it is what is grasped. The eye and so on are not not grasped. What are the five, the eye and so on, themselves grasped? It is not, it is the aspect of four. In order to know what those four are, it is said that they are form, smell, taste, and touch. Among them, the realms of form, smell, taste, and touch are in the sense powers.
