Joy to the upright. The beings in the realm of body and speech of those upright ones are worthy of respect. If it is said that those upright ones have no doubts about being upset, then at that time, how will the actions of the bodies and speech of non-humans, with the faults of body and speech, and the faults of mind being the most serious and great, be established? When is it established as having great faults? It is said that it is merely because of their upset, etc. When, without the actions of body and speech, merely because of the upset of the upright ones, so many beings die. The fault of mind is established as having great faults. Also, for the sake of refuting the doctrines of externalists. It is said that if these are merely consciousness, etc. If it is only mind and mental factors that are free from the grasped and the grasper. The yogi who has attained the knowledge of others' minds. Does he know the minds of others? Or does he not know? Please say. The proponent of established tenets, not seeing both as faults, asks: What is the use of this? This is easy to understand, can be thought about and discussed. For the sake of the externalist pointing out that both are faults. It is said that if you do not know, etc. If the yogi does not know the minds of others, then how is it called knowing the minds of others? Like this, to the one who knows the minds of others, it is said like this. If the cause of this sound is that the action does not exist, how will the action occur? If this fault occurs, then admit that you know the minds of others. At that time, they appear in the form of the grasped and the grasper, so it will become inconsistent with the true nature of things. How can the knowledge of yogis whose practice has reached the ultimate not be in accordance with the true nature of things? That is to say, if you know the minds of others, then because you have admitted the form of the grasped and the grasper, the sense of touch itself will disappear. If you do not understand the true nature of things, then do not say that there is knowledge of others' minds, it will be taught in this way. The author of the treatise acknowledges the situation that is not in accordance with the true nature of things, and there he shows an example of what is not in accordance with the true nature of things.

For example, it is said, "One who knows one's own mind." For example, the knowledge of beings about their own past and future minds is not as it is in reality; similarly, the knowledge of yogis about the minds of others is also not as it is in reality. The statement "knowing the minds of others" is made due to the assumption of having realized it. Thus, through the power of their yoga, their own minds appear clearly in a form similar to the minds of others. For example, through the power of their yoga, there arises knowledge that clearly reveals the appearance of past and future objects. Moreover, when they perceive the object as the mind of another, they assume that they know the mind of the other. The opponent considers this example to be unestablished and asks, "How is it not as it is in reality?" If it is established that knowing one's own mind is meaningless and not as it is in reality, then giving an example would be reasonable. If that point is not established, how is it not as it is in reality? The author of the treatise, to explain the reason why both are not as they are in reality, stated "The Buddha's..." etc. To refute this, it is said, "How is it the nature of being inexpressible?" etc. One's own mind and the minds of others, just as the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, have realized, are of an inexpressible nature, and so on. As they have realized it, beings do not know their own minds, and yogis do not know the minds of others. Therefore, knowing one's own mind and knowing the minds of others are both not as they are in reality. Why do beings and yogis not know their own and others' minds as being of an inexpressible nature? Therefore, it is said, "Because of appearing falsely." Thus, their minds are distorted by the aspects of the apprehended and the apprehender. If, in the true sense, their minds are free from the apprehended and the apprehender, then for the mind of non-dual nature, the appearance of duality is false. Therefore, because the aspect of the apprehended is obscured, the nature of one's own and others' minds is not recognized.
