Return. Those should not be hell beings, because they do not experience that kind of suffering in the same way. If they harm each other, then these are hell beings, these are the guards of hell, etc., such an establishment would not be valid. People with the same appearance, size, and strength, even if they harm each other, how would they be afraid? On the burning hot iron ground, even the suffering of heat cannot be endured, how can one harm others there? Those who are not hell beings, how can they be born in hell? Then how can animals be born in the heavens? Similarly, in hell, will there also appear differences between animals and pretas, hell guards, etc.? If you ask: As beasts are born in heaven, So hell is not the same. Not a preta in such a place, There, they do not feel that pain. Those animals that are born in the heavens are those who are born there in the vessel world by the karma that will experience its happiness, and there they individually experience the happiness of existence. The guards of hell, etc., likewise do not experience the suffering of hell. Therefore, animals should not be born there. Nor is it a difference of pretas. The differences that arise there due to the karma of those hell beings appear in this way: by the differences in color, appearance, size, and strength, they obtain the names of hell guards, etc. Whatever stretches out their arms, etc., and appears to do various things, can also be established, because those are for creating fear. For example, deer like sheep appear, walk, the iron Shalmali forest, the trees look down or look up, etc., if you say that those are not non-existent either. If those who appear there due to their karma have already appeared, and it seems that they will change in that way, then why not acknowledge it as consciousness? Why not acknowledge that by their karma there, consciousness itself will become like that? Why distinguish on the aggregates?

Where there are karmic imprints elsewhere, the fruits are realized elsewhere. Where there are imprints, why not wish for them to manifest there? What karma of sentient beings in hell causes them to arise there and undergo changes? The imprints of that karma reside in the stream of their respective consciousnesses. If it were not so, why not wish that wherever the imprints are, their fruits should be realized there? If there are no imprints in a certain place, yet the fruits are realized there, what is the reason for this? Reply: There is a reason from scripture. If consciousness itself appears as form, etc., but the objects of form, etc., do not exist, then the Blessed One would not have spoken of the existence of the sense bases of form, etc. Reply: This is not a reason. Like this: For beings to be tamed, He spoke according to their inclinations, That there are sense bases of form, etc., Like a spontaneously born being. For example, the Blessed One spoke of the existence of spontaneously born beings, also considering that the continuum of consciousness is not interrupted in the future, therefore it was spoken according to their inclinations. Because he said, "Here there is no self or sentient being, only phenomena arising from causes and conditions." Similarly, the Blessed One spoke of the existence of sense bases of form, etc., also for the sake of taming beings to be tamed, so these teachings are with hidden meaning. What is the hidden meaning here? From one's own seed, from where does the appearance of consciousness arise? Those are its sense bases, the Buddha spoke in two ways. If someone asks: How is this to be explained? The consciousness that appears as form, the seed from which it arises, which is the specific transformation of its own seed, and the appearance that is manifested, those are the eye and the sense base of form, which the Blessed One spoke of in order. Similarly, for the consciousness that appears as touch, the seed from which it arises, which is the specific transformation of its own seed, and the appearance that is manifested, those are the body and the sense base of touch, which the Blessed One spoke of in order. This is the hidden meaning here. Thus,
