Anger, rage, resentment, concealment, irritation, jealousy, stinginess, deceit, flattery, arrogance, harm, shamelessness, lack of embarrassment, dullness, agitation, lack of faith, laziness and carelessness, forgetfulness, non-intelligence, distraction, sleep, regret, conceptualization, and analysis. Mental events such as mind should be understood by their characteristics and functions. Mind is the manifestation of mind, the activity of mind, the path by which virtuous, non-virtuous, and neutral mental events arise. Therefore, the manifestation of mind, the activity of mind, is shown by cherishing it as its characteristic. The function of virtuous, non-virtuous, and neutral events is that mind arises, and thus, mind arises in virtuous and other dharmas because of its manifestation. Attention is the object of mind, the function of mind holding onto the object. Holding onto the object should be understood as repeatedly focusing on those objects. Therefore, obtaining attention is said to be obtaining samadhi. Contact is the union of three, the complete severance of the transformation of the senses, the function of the basis for the arising of feeling. When consciousness arises, the aspect of the transformation of the senses that is in accordance with the arising of feelings such as pleasure is known as contact. Desire is the act of closely taking and abandoning desired objects, and desire itself is the function of the basis for the arising of diligent effort. The phrase "wanting to do for that and that" is because it includes all wanting to do such as wanting to see and wanting to hear. Aspiration is the function of not being robbed by holding onto a determined object as it is determined. Holding onto it as it is determined is the aspiration that "this is it, not otherwise." Therefore, cherishing it means that others cannot take it away. Memory is the function of the mind not forgetting familiar objects and not being distracted. Familiar objects are those that have been previously experienced.
