It is so. A letter that is not summarized by a name is a letter itself, not a name. Why are collections of names and so on applied? For example, it is to allow people to individually experience the feelings arising from the accumulation of words. What is the meaning of the word 'name'? It is a name because it makes people ভালোভাবে(梵文天城体,bhāvanā,梵文罗马拟音,practice)know various names well. Also, it is a name because the mind acts as a sign. Also, it is a name because it reveals hidden meanings and expresses them in language. Because the name encompasses everything, it is a word. To make names and words clear afterwards, they are collections of letters. The 'word' and 'path of words' that the Blessed One extensively proclaimed, where 'word' refers to names that arise from all categories and are related to lineage. The 'path of words' refers to that category, that lineage, and intention, that is, to make them all arise. A definite word refers to what is taught and explained, and for each of them, what is the word that can accomplish it. Its basis is the path. Application refers to distinguishing and applying from each one. Its basis is the path. Intention has already been definitely explained, and there is no difference in intention. Applying its word is the path. The basis of the collection of names and so on, in short, is six kinds, namely: Dharma, meaning, person, time, number, and occasion. Their detailed distinctions are to be understood as shown in the ground arising from hearing. Among them, language, in short, should be understood as having eight branches, such as city dwellers and pleasantness, that is, from the abundance of words and letters to the collection of branches of upholding vows, to teach the Dharma. Among them, the language of city dwellers refers to the city of Nirvana as the object. Pleasantness is because the sound is soft and pleasant. Clarity is because words and letters are very rich. Worth listening to is because it has Dharma and meaning. Non-reliance is because it does not rely on acts of faith. No discord

Therefore, speaking appropriately. Not arguing is because of being vast and wise. The merits of those eight kinds of speech, if briefly summarized, should be understood as three types: subjugation, in one way; essence, in two ways; combination, in the remaining ways. Among these, accomplishment is because the order of the collection of names, words, and letters is well accomplished. Moreover, it is accomplishment because it relies on the four reasons. Connection is because it is connected with proof. Conformity is because it conforms with detailed explanation. Agreement is because of clear words and letters, etc., and harmony, etc. Having skillful means is because it penetrates the heart. Harmony is because it is harmonious with the retinue. Consistency is because it is consistent with the Dharma, consistent with the meaning, and consistent with the time. The so-called "collection of limbs of diligent guarding," wherein "diligent guarding" refers to doing respectfully and doing constantly. Its limbs are right view, etc., because it is a collection of those. Among these, the types are like this: those who possess aggregates, those who possess elements, those who possess sense bases, and those who possess dependent origination, those who possess places and non-places, those who possess mindfulness, and those who possess such mindfulness, etc. Similarly, what is spoken by the Hearers, what is spoken by the Thus-Gone One, or what is spoken by the Bodhisattva is called a type. Among these, the teaching is what one relies on to speak. It should also be understood as twenty-seven types of individuals through the distinctions of faculties, etc. Among these, through the distinction of faculties, there are those with dull faculties and those with sharp faculties. For example, just as in the Hearer's ground, the display of engaging in sexual activity, etc. Through the distinction of direction, there are householders and renunciants. Through the distinction of aspiration, there are Hearers, Solitary Buddhas, and Bodhisattvas. Through the distinction of what can be accomplished and what cannot be accomplished, there are those whose nature is to be completely liberated from suffering and those whose nature is not to be completely liberated from suffering. Through the distinction of combination, there are those who are untamed.
