Crushing is the act of opposing birth and abiding. Frightening is the act of repeatedly appearing. Furthermore, overcoming is the act of opposing the arising of virtues that have not yet arisen. Turning one's back is the act of opposing the abiding of virtues that have already arisen. Evil crushing, pervasive crushing, विशेष crushing, harming, and overturning—the meanings of these words should be understood through these words. Not knowing the prior extreme means not knowing the impermanent nature of past formations. The posterior extreme means not knowing the nature of decay of what is currently arising. The prior and posterior extremes mean not knowing the nature of arising of future things and the nature of decay of things that have arisen. Because of not understanding these, starting from the prior extreme and so forth, one engages in improper attention in detail, thinking, "Did I arise from past time?" How do they exist? How will they change? Where do these sentient beings come from? Where will they go after dying and transmigrating from here?" This is improper attention starting from the prior and posterior extremes. Because of being completely deluded about the nature of impermanence, one is connected with the view of seeing a self in formations, and one does not understand that inner, outer, and both are merely dharma. Inner refers to the inner sense bases. Outer refers to the outer five. Inner and outer refer to the support of the senses themselves and the dharma sense base. Those dharmas are also regarded as being internal and are included by the external sense bases. Not knowing karma means not understanding merely formations, and clinging to them as self and agent. Not knowing maturation means clinging to sentient beings, vessels, and other places that arise from karma as lords, agents, and givers. Not knowing karma and maturation means that due to complete delusion, one obtains the wrong view of slandering karma and its results. It is said that this is the non-knowing of the outsiders. Ordinary individuals do not understand this dharma through aspects such as the form of the Dharmakaya.
