The earth and, the higher view and, the space between the four abodes of Dharma, should be known as the abode of the noble ones. For a yogi who diligently walks, dwells, and sits, there are four dharmas free from all afflictions. Whether rising to engage with an object, or fixing the mind in concentration on an object, one will abide free from all afflictions. What are the four? In a pleasant place, from the afflictive pleasantness of the object, maintaining equanimity of mind; in an unpleasant place, from the afflictive unpleasantness of the object, maintaining equanimity of mind; completely purifying the mind from the near afflictions that accord with the aspect of higher seeing; completely purifying the mind from the near afflictions that accord with the aspect of calm abiding. For those who diligently walk, dwell, and sit, it should be known that there are appropriately four abodes of Dharma that serve as the support, basis, and place of these four dharmas of abiding free from all afflictions, namely: absence of covetousness, absence of malice, right mindfulness, and right concentration. Accumulation is: transformation into another establishment, the path of the gods and the mirror, and the final expression of faith. A disciple of the Tathagata who possesses excellent views, knowing that two dharmas have become pure, will be established as transforming into four kinds of faith, namely faith and discipline. Those who are skilled in explaining the meaning of the conduct of a renunciate, and those who are in harmony with the meaning and Dharma of a renunciate, for those companions who wish to attain the conduct of a renunciate, the faith that is firmly rooted, cannot be stolen, and will not deceive even in future lives, this is the faith to be embraced. Having obtained the vows that do not definitively lead to one unwholesome Dharma that will cause one to go to a lower realm, therefore all disciplines should be known as being of an initial nature. Thereupon, relying on which faith does one enter the well-spoken Dharma Vinaya, and if one is accompanied by that faith, then in future lives, one will never turn away from this Dharma Vinaya. Because of which fear of the lower realms, having properly taken up discipline as an antidote to misconduct, and being accompanied by that, then in other lives, one will eternally

Until I am completely free from suffering, I will not fall into evil destinies. Therefore, since one does not turn back from the well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya, and turns back from evil destinies, faith and discipline are shown as the sole nature of joy. Other dharmas such as diligence and mindfulness will also not fail to be joyful. Therefore, faith is the basis of higher discipline. Discipline is the basis of higher mind and higher wisdom. Therefore, faith and discipline are completely pure, and in reality, the three trainings are shown to be completely pure. Therefore, it should be understood that they are shown as two. The second classification is that since faith produces the white dharmas belonging to the realm, it is the producer of merit. Since it guides the particularly excellent noble path, it is the producer of virtue. Since it guides the abandonment of the remnants of afflictions, it is called the basis of happiness. Having known that one is certain to go to a good destiny, a noble Hearer who has faith, even if he has already settled in a good destiny, still has the fear of the three kinds of suffering arising from the transformation of the great elements, but the beings in evil destinies do not. What are the three kinds of suffering? They are the suffering of illness, the suffering of old age, and the suffering of death at a critical moment. Therefore, it is said that even though the four great elements may change, a Hearer who has faith, knowing this, will not change. Thus it was said. The perfectly pure deity is called the supreme of harmlessness, because they never harm sentient beings with body, speech, or mind. Considering these, knowing the deity as the cause of nature, the four faiths are called the path of the gods. Therefore, relying on the four faiths after understanding, through the three doors, the noble Hearer practices the six recollections. The near afflictions corresponding to the aspect of calm abiding make one a possessor of near afflictions, the near afflictions corresponding to the aspect of insight make one a possessor of near afflictions, or even if neither makes one a possessor of near afflictions, in the future
