What is the entity that is the basis for expressive words? What is name? It is the conventional term for that very reason. What is discrimination? It is the mind and mental phenomena that operate in the three realms. What is suchness? It is well distinguished by the selflessness of phenomena, the domain of the wisdom of the noble ones, and the entity that has not become the basis for all explicitly expressed words. What is valid cognition? In brief, it should be regarded as two causes: one is supramundane, and the other is mundane and supramundane. What is the uniquely supramundane valid cognition? It is that by which the hearers, solitary realizers, and bodhisattvas realize suchness well. When bodhisattvas apply themselves to these five sciences, because the knowledge of suchness pervades everything, they abide in it many times and truly attain the purification of the obscurations of knowledge. What is the mundane and supramundane valid cognition? It is that by which the hearers and solitary realizers, having well realized suchness with the first valid cognition, obtain from the aftermath of the first supramundane cognition, and with regard to the truths established by the mundane and supramundane, they generate fear of the three realms and experience the taste of the complete pacification of the three realms, and merely by abiding in it many times, they quickly and quickly attain the purification of the obscurations of affliction. Moreover, in terms of the unfamiliar meaning, it is supramundane, and in terms of the meaning that focuses on the characteristics of terminology, it is mundane, therefore it is called mundane and supramundane. The Blessed One also, thinking of that, said, "I also have mundane wisdom." He said, "I also have supramundane wisdom." He said, "I also have mundane and supramundane wisdom." Of these, whatever knowledge is included by discrimination is only mundane. Whatever is included by the first valid cognition is mundane.

,it is only transcendence. What is encompassed by the two correct knowledges? That is worldly and transworldly. Should it be said to have a reason or should it be said to have no reason? Answer: It should be said to have a reason. Should it be said to exist as the basis for establishing entities and distinctions? Answer: It should not be said that way. Should it be said to exist as the domain of conceptual thought? Answer: It should be said to exist that way. Because the reason exists in that way, a bodhisattva who is skilled in this path is also skilled in answering with reason, also skilled in answering without reason, also skilled in answering with existence and non-existence, and also skilled in answering with neither existence nor non-existence. One who is skilled in answering in that way, having abandoned the extremes of addition and defamation, reveals the boundaries of dharma through the Middle Way. Should it be said to exist in the sense of stating a reason? Should it be said to exist in the sense of being inexpressible? Answer: It should be said to exist in both ways. Why? Because it exists as the basis for what is said, and in the sense of stating it exists; and because the establishment of entities and distinctions is not fully established, it is said to be non-existent in the sense of being inexpressible. Should name, conceptual thought, suchness, and correct knowledge also be said to exist in the same way? Answer: They should be said to exist in the same way. Should the reason be said to exist substantially? Should it be said to exist nominally? Answer: The characteristics of compounded things that exist substantially should be said to exist substantially. Those that exist nominally should be said to exist nominally, because those compounded things that have a reason also have two aspects. Should name be said to exist substantially? Should it be said to exist nominally? Answer: It should be said to exist nominally, because it is merely a nominal designation close to a reason. Distinction
